André! I bring it with me everyday now. It is challenging but rewarding.

Andreas,
I don't think your tortoise or the animal rights lovers will like this picture!
Is there some local story behind this statue?
BTW, Great shot!
It looks pretty dramatic from this angle. No tortoise was hurt in the making...
I don´t know the story behind it. I will try to find out.

Yes, incredible!
I've been trying to figure out what is most striking about it. While looking, I noticed how the colour tones in the sky & tree have serendipitously matched so well with those of the statue. The natural lens vignetting ties it all together, enhancing the already excellent framing, and drawing a "matting" around the tortoise & stone.
This must be printed. Big.
Paul! Kind words. I am pleased with it too. The vignetting has been boosted in PP to add drama.
I also added a yellowish tone to sum it up.

Nice shot no doubt! Even gets nice bokeh out of the 18, also! (Not easy to do I'd imagine.) I would like to hear what that sculpture is all about also.
Can't wait to try out one of these lenses.

Ed! Thank you! If you stop by I will let you try it.
I liked the 21/3.5 but love the 18/3.5!

As luck would have it, I managed to score one of these gems yesterday. Near-mint condition, complete with the hard case. Like Anden, I also paid a very good price...less than $840 for those of you that may need a point of reference for future deals. Now I just gotta sit tight and wait for it...

Andreas,
I'm feeling better now. Since you've now gotten beyond the One Great Shot You Buy a New Lens to Get, I can tell you're losing interest in this Zuiko and I sense it coming my way...
Not to worry, my friend, that C/Y 16mm f2.8 fisheye - you know, the one in your future - is already here in my cabinet, just waiting for that straight-up trade.
Seriously, as Paul and others have noted, that statue/tortoise shot is really spectacular.

Congratulations Mike! The waiting is the tough part. It's like being a child waiting for Christmas!

MIke that is a good price. Congrats!
As luck would have it I managed to score 3 of these (!) in the last week or so, so now I have more than enough. ;-)
All 3 are in great shape, I'll keep one and the other two are up for sale, will post on B&S soon.
I didn't really need 3, but it just worked out that way.
Anden you should try the 21/2 if you like the 3.5... ;-) I think you need a 24/shift too.
-Ed
Either you have too much money or you have too much time. Finding and buying 3 in a week must have been very expensive or very lucky. Congratulations anyway!
I will try both the 24 Shift and the 21/2 one day. Must use the ones I have first...

Thanks David. I am starting to like the tortoise shot too...
As for your offer I have to decline. Have a word with Ed. He seems to be able to spare one...
If so, nice choice. I was thinking of going after that one, it looks like a nice example.
Anden: I was obsessed with having one, which is how I ended up with 3 - hedging my bets. It came together over the course of a couple weeks but all arrived within a week. Not overly expensive, which was the whole point of looking so hard. Not cheap of course, but about on par overall. I wish I could afford to keep one as a spare, but it just ties up too much $.

Ed: Yes, that's the one. Looked too good to pass up. I was actually surprised that my bid won the lens, considering that the starting price was $600 (with a reserve), and my max bid was set at $851.

Mike, the last one that went on an open auction on ebay was $861 (and it was equally as nice), so you were right in the ballpark with your bid. That one was a nice one. I had thought of bidding but since I already had 3... well, gotta stop somewhere.

Well, I sure am glad that you let me have a shot at it.

I'm not sure how Ed S turned up with three copies of this lens, but I'm here to tell ya', he doesn't have three copies any more. I just swapped my Zeiss 16mm fish straight up for one of his 18s. I might have gotten more than mid-800s for the Zeiss, but I wanted the 18. Besides, I bought the Zeiss three years ago for, well, less than mid-800s.
First thing I'm going to do when the Oly arrives is an 18mm shootout between the Zuiko and my Zeiss 18 f4. I have this theory about which will take the trophy. I'm amazed at how the prices have held up on the Zeiss. Hope they hang on just a little longer...
