Congrats you all :-)
When I have a FF DSLR, and can afford this beauty, I'll be in Oly heaven
But, as of now, I spent less than $800 on all my 9 Zuiko lenses... looks like this dream is still far... oh well, I have XSi/1D and Zuiko 21

David, it's on the way! But before I packed it I had to take some pics. Pardon the oly orgy here... I don't get to share the post-your-pics lovin' very often, being a film-only shooter primarily. These were taken with my little point and shoot Canon S70. (some were actually manually-focused, just to keep it on-topic and in the alt spirit... ;-)

Keep us posted on the shootout. They are both great lenses I am sure, no way to lose there! Zeiss seems quite resilient price-wise too.

Enjoy

I'm not sure how Ed S turned up with three copies of this lens, but I'm here to tell ya', he doesn't have three copies any more. I just swapped my Zeiss 16mm fish straight up for one of his 18s. I might have gotten more than mid-800s for the Zeiss, but I wanted the 18. Besides, I bought the Zeiss three years ago for, well, less than mid-800s.

First thing I'm going to do when the Oly arrives is an 18mm shootout between the Zuiko and my Zeiss 18 f4. I have this theory about which will take the trophy.

I am looking forward to it!

For those who have been around here for a while, that comparison has been done before. Mike Hatam tested them and found the Zeiss a little sharper in the center, but the Oly much sharper in the edges and corners.

It will be interesting to see what you come up with. I really hope you have some high quality adapters to go with those fine lenses. Otherwise, it may be futile.

hi Alexandre!

:-)

well, I only have 2 18s now... eventually just one I think.

I had 4 x Rokkor 58/1.2s at one point, but only 2 currently. Even that is probably one more than I need.

Quick ques: does the Zuiko 18 take a 49mm filter? I orderd a 49-72 to serve as a shade for my on-its-way 18. The Mir site with info on Zuikos says it takes a 62mm filter.

So, which is it?

No. It'll scratch the glass if you try. Don't.

Rachp -

I do have the 2nd one available! Feel free to email/PM.

David, I don't know if a straight 49-72 will clear the front element. the Oly factory one is deep (from the pics; I don't have one...) If/when I use a filter on these I was planning on stacking 2 or 3 rings, probably 49-62 and 62-72 or 49-52, 52-62, 62-72.

The factory oly hood is very hard to find, unfortunately. >:-/

I bought it! Yeepy! But I have also sold my 21 3.5 to pay for it. Bought and sold within an hour Boy these babies are hot.

I think it is a fair price with everything plus the adapter
Can't wait for it to arrive.

I use a 49-58 and a 58-77 step on mine. It works as it should.

wkhc168 - good score. that is a fair price if it's in good shape w/ adapter and case. Funnily enough, that seller had advertised it before, with no takers, some months ago. I found it in the archives and emailed him several times about it, prior to finding the 3 I acquired recently. I got no response from him @ the time. ah well.

I'll try to shoot and scan some slides with mine, either velvia 50 or K25 maybe.

Yes, I saw his ad back then also, in fact, I bought the other item on that ad from him - a Leica APO 100mm macro. He is a great guy to deal with, at the time it was his first post on FM but I communicated with him a few times and trusted him and it paid off. The Leica was mint and he took care to pack and shipped promptly. That's why I had no hesitation to deal with him again. He even gave me a discount for being a loyal customer

I will be using it on my 5D MKII. Will certainly put up some photos to share when it arrives.
