Hi Braeden,

My following comment is offered in a friendly tone of voice and simply added to help you with a different set of eyes and POV.

I don't expect you to agree with my comment, nor do I expect many of the people here to look at the image and see the same thing. But, what I am offering you is an honest observation.

Several of the posted photos have made her nose look large. In fact, it becomes more prominent because of the short DOF effect and perhaps because of use of optics (mild distortion of features). Images 1,3,4, in particular gave me this impression.

I hope this observation helps you.

photo 5 is def my favourite. Only issue i have with it is the photo on the right and her hyper extended elbow. Gotta watch out for that as it makes her arm look way too torqued and crippled

you seem to have a negative opinion on everyone's images....just a observation that I hope helps you.

Cheers.

Hi.
I think your observation is misplaced.

I actually like Braeden and consider him a nice and talented young photographer. I always have.

I am trying to help him with a second set of eyes looking at his image and simply am pointing out an impression I got based on the image (not him).

I have NO negative opinion of him.

And...let's keep this a discussion of the strengths and weaknesses (or impressions) of the PHOTO not the people.

So...back on topic...

They seem low contrast. If that's what you were going after, well, you nailed it. But they look drab to me, and she is smiling in the photos, so her affect doesn't match the mood of the photo.

Steady Hand, you're so right.
Look at the profile then look at the straight-on shots...yes, the nose seems out of proportion and not very flattering.

Otherwise beautiful shots, the eyes are so skillfully emphasized.
I don't like the flare in #5 but The intent there is clear.

Thx for showin'em.

See what happens when you use a 50mm for a close-up? just kidding.

Seriously though, I feel that a bit more space between the camera and the model could have benefited the images some. But it's not THAT distracting and the only time that it's really noticeable is when you look for it.

P.S. I think Steady's comment aren't negative, they are more (as he says; "second eyes") a second opinion of the image. The comments derived from the "negatives" he state can and possibly will help the photographer to avoid said mistakes (or let's call them mis-steps) in future work.

Most people say either nothing if they don't like it or say two word attaboys like 'awesome dude' and 'you rock'. Steady usually brings up points that others don't. and he always prefaces it with his intention.
I like the colors PP and lighting and clothes jewelry , etc. Some more emotion from the subject would be nice. There is sometihng to be said about using a little bit longer lens for close ups, the lens you chose did make her nose look larger than it probably is in real life.

All due respect.

Sorry Braeden, I hate them. But that's only because I didn't take them.

I kind of see what Steady means about how her nose appears in #1 and #4, but not so prevalent in the others. And from the profile, her nose doesn't look large at all.

All in all, a really nice set. #3 and #5 are definitely my favorites. (but I am partial to B&W)

Love them. Her eyes pop out of every photo, and beautiful eyes, too.

I need to learn how to properly backlight a subject to get flares like this, my trials so far have all been epic fails. Any tips?

I do agree with steady on the nose it does look prominent on 1 and 4 especially. #5 on the right the lens flare although enjoyable by some whom view the photo is in a bad spot it is near her head and face effectively almost blocking out a good part of her face. The face is what a portrait is about why hide it? Maybe the flare in a lower position would be better suited to this photo.

Nice captures otherwise

2,4 and 5 are great. I think the black and white conversion on 2 looks very dull. Overall the comp and lighting are awesome.
