I totally agree with you Gabmc.
Be nice to see the expert Steady post some of his own images for a change.
If you notice he does not have any uploads to view.

Its one thing to give advice on lighting techniques such as Jgardner does and does so so well as he knows what he is talking about, but to nit pick and give nothing but negative comments on each and every image as Steady does just does not set well with me. Seems he is never satisfied with anyones image.

My 2 cents opinion for what it is worth...

ps....
Braeden
I think your images are great. In the end its what you like that is important.
Don't stop posting because of nit picks.

Lovely model and I really like all of the shots. Minor observations would be that IMO #3 just needs to be punched up with some contrast, too blah. On #5 I personally would really tone down the flare so her face is clearly visible and the flare is coming through the out reaches of her hair. I think #3 is my favorite.

Really nice Braeden, and distinctively you. The left half of 5 is amazing.

Top notch photography. Love em.

Not such a fan of the little mouth 'tic' she has where the left side of her mouth is turned up in most of the images.

Images which are flawless in every respect are exceedingly rare. I've got maybe 4 to my name, ever. Pointing out the flaws is fine as long as it isn't malicious and intended to help.

Getting too comfortable with your work can only lead to stagnation...

Are you saying he is wrong about what he says? Is the criticism valid? IMO the shots of Miss Glover are wonderful except for the choice of lens in some shots does make her nose look larger than it is.
Steady does have a disclaimer on each of his posts, and yes most of the posts do mention something 'negative'. I think there is plenty of room for that since 90% of the comments are "love it " or "awesome capture" or "I am a golden god" (oh wait that was in Almost Famous...) with no explanation about why it is so good. Steady is insightful enough to say what he doesn't like but most who are giving two thumbs up usually dont say whay they LIKE it, which would be just as valuable as Steady saying why he doesn't like it. Maybe Steady should say what he likes about it before saying what he doesn't, but he does have a disclaimer. I don't know what kind of photographer Steady is (although I think I recall some shots he posted that were very nice) but he often offers a 2nd set of eyes, which the OPs can ignore or pay attention to.

C Gardner (not J) has his rules and sticks by them I don't know about the practical use of his formula but it works for him in theory. Personally I don't follow his rules but I respect Chuck for sticking to his guns. He's unflappable.

Lets not turn this forum into a mutual admiration society by trying to freeze out those who have contrary opinions.

And Scup, do a search on Steady, you'll find plenty of his pictures on line....all due respect

Translation of gabemc: Stop writing mean things about my and my buddy's images; if you can't write "awesome image!!!", then don't even bother posting.

Steady couldn't be more considerate or gracious. If you don't want constructive (and highly accurate) feedback, then stop posting. How you could have no sense of the dynamics of this forum after over 3600 posts is unfathomable.

I hope that this observation helps you.

Braedon, another wondeful series from you. The last image was (5) was stellar. I really need to try out some of these techniques for some portraits.

Great work!

she has killer eyes!
one is a winner.
in three, her eyes are smiling louder than her lips.
i think in 5 her elbow is a little locked too hard. looks kinda broken.

did you get a shot of her winking? that would be cool.

great job.

Thanks so much for all the feedback and critiques so far.

Yeah I agree I wish I had noticed that she had locked her elbow at the time as well. I noticed it but it doesn't bother me all that much.

50mm is something that I love shooting at. I like the openness that it offers view wise and I will take a small bit of distortion to get it. Can't wait to get the 35 1.4... .

Also I feel like someone asked me if I use reflectors or of camera lights. The answer is no spot meter is my best friend.

wow..you are soo right....how could I have been so blind. A reply by someone who seems to very rarely put his own work up for critique, but always seems to have a critique for everyone.

I appreciate honest feedback..but when you fail to allow others to honestly critique your own work, your personal opinion and POV...to me...hold little, if at all, any value.

Cheers.

Great stuff, cute girl. I would edit out #4 and #5 on the right side, not a fan of her expression in these. Otherwise, great!

I am just going to state in a very friendly tone that just because someone doesnt post for feedback doesnt mean they arent pretty darn good...

Hope you dont mind Steady and no reply needed but folks take a look at his WWW link http://www.steadmanuhlich.com/ and or his zenfolio site http://steadmanuhlich.zenfolio.com/ and I think you will agree is pretty qualified to make comments on portraits.

Now me on the other hand... pfft you can dismiss me at will

But really folks to have an artist that has had excellent reviews by the media comment on our images, comments that are usually spot on is something I appreciate. Appreciate not only Steady but many other accomplished photographers that take their time to comment on this site.

Again Steady I know this probably makes you a bit uncomfortable, but I thought I would point it out for those who havent taken the time to evaluate your qualifications to comment on the posts for C&C made here

By edit: There has been some pretty critical comments here and in other threads about people asking for C&C it being given, and then people condemning the C&C when in most cases it was given in very constructive tone... if you can learn from a comment great, if not take it for what it is (free) and move on with a smile

So what?... does that make his comments untrue?
I think the valid point Steady made was about the lens & the nose, and Braeden explained that he liked the look and accepts what little distortion comes with it. He didn't go off, ignoring the statement he answered it.
Ad hominem arguments are distracting and chill the 'free speech' that makes (or made) this site so valuable. To take this logic further unless I can cook a better dinner I have no right to send something back to the kitchen? Or I can't say that a movie sucks unless I can make a better one? It would be pretty quiet in here if everyone had to go though your vetting process before posting. It's a public forum, both valuable and not so valuable comments will be made.
Respond to the comment instead of trying to dig up dirt on the commenter. I have had plenty (not all) of teachers who knew good work and how to guide someone to do good work but not all could actually produce work on the higher level.

...all due respect.

Good series that accentuates the eyes throughout, Braeden. Well done.

The last pic wouldn't make my keepers list because of the position of the lens flare, and how much of her face is blotted out. It's personal preference, of course and others won't mind. I do like all the others.
