So what?... does that make his comments untrue?
I think the valid point Steady made was about the lens & the nose, and Braeden explained that he liked the look and accepts what little distortion comes with it. He didn't go off, ignoring the statement he answered it.
Ad hominem arguments are distracting and chill the 'free speech' that makes (or made) this site so valuable. To take this logic further unless I can cook a better dinner I have no right to send something back to the kitchen? Or I can't say that a movie sucks unless I can

you seem to have a negative opinion on everyone's images....just a observation that I hope helps you.

Unlike many of us Steady Hand says what he sees is wrong or bad looking. And doing it in really friendly voice. So what's wrong with his comment if other people feels the same but not saying anything?

I really don't want to take this thread off topic, but Steady Hand is not all about negative comments. I still remember that it was all positive comments about my pictures. You can check this thread if you would like proof. He was like the 3rd post on first page.

And for me, I actually like comments from both photographers and non-photographers, you can different points of view and you can pick what you like. Just because he doesn't post photos here, doesn't mean I don't welcome his critiques. Heck, I learn by his critiques on everyone's photos!

Thanks so much for all the feedback and critiques so far.

Yeah I agree I wish I had noticed that she had locked her elbow at the time as well. I noticed it but it doesn't bother me all that much.

50mm is something that I love shooting at. I like the openness that it offers view wise and I will take a small bit of distortion to get it. Can't wait to get the 35 1.4... .

Also I feel like someone asked me if I use reflectors or of camera lights. The answer is no spot meter

no no...get the 50 1.2...and sell me the 1.4...I will only use your 50 1.4...I think it has magical powers lol

sorry I see a lot of blown highlights in his portraits as well as some unflattering poses...the very things he criticizes other photographers for.

Sorry...that my POV and I hope that observation helps.

You are so wrong, inaccurate, and mistaken.

There are no blown highlights in my portraits.

Each makes a lovely print without any "blown" highlights. Some images appear bright on the internet due to the lower tonal range when saved to the web.

Each image has natural texture in skin, hair, or surface. Even areas that appear relatively bright on the internet have pores in the skin, and individual hairs in the hair mass and texture (fibers) in the fabrics (even "white" silk or white cotton).

Specular highlights are carefully managed and used as part of the image. Deep shadows to bright "specular" white are used to give a complete tonal range. This takes care and proper exposure.

All heads contain all of the head and all body parts (limbs) show all of the limb (they are not missing half due to overexposure).

So...you should check your monitor calibration or your eyes.

If you find a pose "unflattering" I suppose that is because YOU see it that way. And that...is merely a matter of a difference of opinion. You are entitled to yours...and I am entitled to mine.

My Simple Suggestion: stop making false statements that mislead others but serve your own purpose. It adds nothing positive to this forum or the friendly discussion of any images posted here, images posted by anyone.

TO BRAEDEN:
Hi. I don't want my comments (earlier or above) to "hijack" your thread.

TO THE FORUM:
I don't see any point in further discussion of "Steady" or "Steady's Pics" in a thread about Braeden's photos. It serves no positive purpose. You folks should focus your attention on the images and look at them objectively (as possible) without thinking of the person who made the photo. Let your own observations be on the image itself and its respective strengths and weaknesses. I also have no wish to be involved in any "off topic" discussions in any thread, especially one I did not post.

I'm liking 1&4, but lens distortion creates some exaggeration in the prominence of her forehead in #3. In addition the eyes appear a bit over sharpened, making the lashes look clumpy. It's a nice expression though, and the hair makes for some nice lines.
I'm not feeling much for #5. I'm wishing for a little more facial detail that might help hold my attention on her face a little longer. As it is now my gaze bounces from those lashes to the flip in her hair which should be less sharp, and perhaps lower contrast IMHO. The current fad of incorporating lens flair is feeling a little tired to me nowadays, so I'm not as positively inclined to 5 frame right as I might have been 9 months to a year ago.

wow..you are soo right....how could I have been so blind. A reply by someone who seems to very rarely put his own work up for critique, but always seems to have a critique for everyone.

I appreciate honest feedback..but when you fail to allow others to honestly critique your own work, your personal opinion and POV...to me...hold little, if at all, any value.

Cheers.

Sorry but you are mistaken dude. Steady has posted numerous pieces for feedback, he just doesn't use image upload to do it. Do an archive search for him and you will see. I think that he has made a massive effort to make his observations impersonal with the express desire to receive similar feedback on his own work. It really seems to me to be the only reason why he is here, and why he makes such an effort.

You might consider cutting him some slack, and be a little less boorish.

Sincerely,
Scott

I do like the images. Very nice work!

I think Steady makes a valid point. I'm surprised at the comments about him. Steady goes out of his way to present his observations in the nicest possible way. He could also teach about 90% of the folks here a thing or two about people photography. I don't care for some of his photos, but he overall does wonderful work.

Steady presents his comments in a clear, concise way. They are always meant to help, not prove how much he thinks he knows. In other words, it's about the OP, not him. There's not enough of that attitude here.
