I'm not sure if this is my best or not, but wow! The color this weekend was incredible in the places where the leaves were still on the trees.
This was my second weekend in a row in the upper peninsula of Michigan. I made a 1 hour drive early in the morning to the Porcupine Mountains for a sunrise at Lake of the Clouds. The sunrise wasn't much so I waited and shot to the southwest with the Carp River running through the forest.
It was a game of patience as the wind was blowing wildly, especially with the updrafts from the valley below. I had to wait and time each shot, all the time watching for the bubble level to settle. Tripods were not safe in the wind and I heard one photographers tripod fall, luckily without a camera attached.
Here's a little color from the northern part of GTNP taken last week. That's the upper reaches of Jackson Lake in the background.
I thought I recognized that! I was just there last week myself, and drank in all that beauty. Were you that man I saw with his tripod set up so carefully!
Some great stuff here! Here's one of my favorites from this year, actually from late summer; an early dropper. I found this small scene on Smuggler's Notch:

I could see the stand of Aspen off the road below me and more importantly,
the carpet of fallen leaves.
