Keep in mind that the camera is not yet released. While the 'facts' are on Canon's website, nothing set in stone till the release of this camera. Canon could easily listen to what we have asked and squeeze it into production before the actual release date. Your so called $20 seal may be a easy fix.

And where is the problem with that?

They did that with the original 5D and it is still a fantastic camera even after being on the market 3 years. I think that there is scope for a camera to fit between the 5D and the 1Ds in the Canon range, but I think they made the right move to not alienate the existing 5D owners or the 5D wannabees.

The money is in the low price ranged cameras that move out the door by the truck load and the 5D II is still the "budget" FF camera. Had they built it

i doubt the 1dmkiin af module could possibly cost more than $200

Finally I read some sense after all the negativity.

Same megapixel count as the 1Ds3 with better IQ according to Canon for less than half the price and everybody's whining? You've GOT to be kidding me...

Canon USA, DP review and Imaging resource all state 9 cross type AF points Both Canon USA and Canon Japan say 1 cross-type

1 Canon USA DP review, Iamging Resource say 9 cross type, 1Caon Japan only 1 Cros type

From Canon USA (Link Here) Go to Specificatons Auto Focus
AF Points 9 (Cross-type)

As I said, It looks like they left their people in the dark and they had to bobble together specs at the last minute. DP review and IR probaly got well edited releases from Canon PR and may be more accurate.

I don't know what people are complaining about...this is a big improvement on an already great camera. I'm going to be getting one definitely.

Folks, there is a difference of around $5,000 between the 5DmkII and the 1DsmkIII - what do you expect? Canon to make a camera $5,000 cheaper with the same specs as the 1DsmkIII? What are you smoking? I'm going to be able to deliver images of similar (if not exactly the same) quality as the 1DsmkIII for $5,000 less to me. In my books that's good for me as a photographer, and good for my clients.

You know what though? I have made my money back on that crappy 5D body 20x over at the $3000 price. Mainly shooting weddings over the last couple of years. I'd say the new body (if it performs well) will be a winner among the low-light wedding shooters. And that is a very large segment of the current 5D owners. I think it's smart on their part. Sure it would be nice to have a 1DsMKIII (or feature set)... but for most, a pair of 5D's (or 5D MKII's) for less than the price of a single 1DsMKIII will work
...Show more

I used to have two 5D's for the same kind of work and although I absolutely loved the IQ, I couldn't stand the AF and overall sluggishness. That's why I went the 1D series route. I just hoped they would have improved the 5D substantially in the aformentioned areas. And I also hoped they went a little easier on the MP's. I don't need 21MP files for weddings. That makes PP more heavy on the system than it should be. sRAW helps, but even with a 10MP sRAW file, the files remain very big. 15MP would have been great. The only thing that speaks for it when shooting weddings is the higher ISO. But I don't shoot past ISO 1600 anyway. I will defintely pass on the 5D2. YMMV

Yes, and Rob Galbraith also clearly states that this is a good thing, as the 5D II will have better AI Servo tracking ability than the 50D.

Noise is not just about the maximum ISO setting. You also have noise at ISO 400 in the shadows. That will be less, surely. It's not clear yet how much of an improvement we have in that regard.

He doesn' have a camera. He is just reading the same stuff we are, just not all of it.

yeah, it does seem bizarre when for like $300 more they could've made it totally responsive and made people utterly forget about the D700 (and even the D800 would just be lucky ot match it at least a year later). So very bizarre to me.

Very bizarre? Your comment is.

There is really still somebody out there not already having Nikon gear or no gear, who thinks about D700 since it was outdated in IQ 3 weeks ago by 50D at the half price? D700 sales range wide below the expected numbers, I was told by my dealer.

This "shitty" not "weather sealed" camera with its "ashamed AF improofment" just set a new worldstandard in DSLRs.
Who still thinks about Nikon A700: Go to your dealer and buy one.
I shoot people and fashion. 4FPS are more than I need. AF was excellent before and did not need any change. Still it looks improved. 21MP and ISO 3200/6400 are the keywords. I never saw a Canon follow up offering lower IQ, than its prerelease. I guess its the same with 5D MK II (nice they kept the name and did not go with that rumor imaginations). Its again a milestone in photo gear. There is no competitor out there now.
And its not only best, but at a great price, too.

What the hell do all of you who remained unhappy expect?
That is no question and I do not need an answer. I know: fully weathersealed, 39 point AF, 7 frames per second and so on. What for?

Canon: It looks to me, you did an excellent job. Thank you. Show me some sample images please about ISO 3200/6400. If 3200 is in 5Ds 1600 IQ I will buy one about christmas. If ISO 6400 is about, I plan to buy a second one next year in Mai as a backup body.

I think you are the only one thinking that the 50d beats the d700 on the IQ side :P

Being religious is all good I guess, but you could try to be a bit realistic

Wow, my jaw is on the desk.
First for the amazing 5DII that Canon just announced.
Second for the disappointment vocalized by some people. {shakes head in bewilderment}

The Finnish Canon site says that the 5D Mark II is weather sealed. The site doesn't talk about any "improved weather sealings" or something like that, but instead there reads something like this:" Robust and compact - because of the magnesium-alloy-body, weather sealing and 150 000 exposure durability the EOS 5D Mark II works as reliably on a shooting gig and in studio."

I think it's just not what some people were expecting. It's certainly not what I am looking for so I'm with those hoping for a 7D (or whatever) at Photokina.

All the new 5DII apologists on here are cracking me up.

I'm about as big of a 5D fan as you can get. I love both of mine, and use them constantly to pay the bills and fill the coffers. They're my main tools in my business.

I'm disappointed in the new 5DII. If it turns out that they just recycled the AF from the 5D, Canon can kiss my ass, I'm just waiting for Nikon to release a couple new primes and I'm gone. I'm well aware that Canon won't miss me, and that they don't give a flying f*ck what I, or any other pro, think.

The ONE improvement the 5D really needed, and they screwed the pooch. I don't give a damn about more resolution. That only matters if the shot is in focus. The 1D Mk. II had multiple cross-type sensors 5+ years ago. WTF Canon? It's not difficult.

The rest of the camera is cool, but damn they failed where it mattered. And don't say "but the IQ is the BEST EVARRR!". You've seen naught but a few corporate samples, and none of you have used it.

And before anyone gives the oh-so-tired line of "what do you expect for $2700?" ... I'd be more than willing to pay $5000 for a 5DII with all the specs it has, with a proper bloody AF array. I'm sick of using only the center point, or the useless outer points.
