Ulkrift - those samples look pretty good. Hopefully they'll tweak the 6400+ JPG engine to eliminate some of the banding and blotching. Noise levels at 6400 are decent, and the 1600 shot is SO clean. Very nice. No 3200 samples, I saw.

All in all, this is about what I expected and for the money it looks like a pretty decent camera for those who need and /or can live with its feature set. The problem that both Nikon and Canon now have is how to introduce cameras of this level and not just totally wipe out their top-of-the-line products. Personally, the 5D II doesn't meet my needs but I am also having a tough time seeing where there are $5K more in extra goodies in my 1DsMkIII which is less than 6 months old.

How about sturdy built, weather sealing all the way , 45 pro AF, 5 FPS, ever lasting battery and so on

Thanks for posting... Do you know what in-camera sharpening and high ISO NR were applied to the JPEG's? Even the lower ISO samples look rather soft to me.

The camera was pretty much software locked, impossible to check/change settings, so I don't know, sorry!

I have played around with it today and I must say its a nice little camera. I like the feel of the new surface has a more pro feel to it.

Iso performance is at least as good as the D3 no doubt about that. Very clean and nice with loads of detail.

Af works very nice and is diffidently better than the old 5D.

The new screen is a joy to use both for the high ress but also the new anti glare works really well.

All in all it looks like a winner, my order is now placed.

Thanks for the AF comment.

So now we have photographers who want to take their cameras out in the rain. This foot stomping hissy fit just gets dumb and dumber.

I'm sure there are those who think this silly crying is going to bring Canon to her knees and virtually halt the sales of the 5Dmk2

Sorry kids. 5Dmk2 will like the 5D be a best seller and be remembered in years to come for setting such a high benchmark in image quality.

Canon does not warranty any of their equipment, lens or camera, against water damage, whether it is claimed to be sealed or not. Event the 1D Mark III warranty excludes water damage. So you takes your chances.

No one knows how canon will react when they send in a 5DMK2 for water damage. Also, since I have never handled a 5DMK2 I cannot say how the CF door mechanism works or how well it keeps out water. I can say that I have never accidentally opened the door on my 5D.

Works faster and more responsive. Easy to get focus en very low light in the corner of the show area. Just snaps on faster and in general had a more snappy feel to it.

Not really anyway to test servo but on walking person but even in the semi darkroom it worked just fine.

Might not be a huge jump but in the very short testing I would say it snapped on just as well as my 1dsm3. Ofcourse not that many points and I did not have much time but it had a good feel to it for sure.

I guess we'll have to see how the 5D mkII plays out in the market. I'm curious to see initial reviews from hands on reviewers. I'm very interested to see overall image quality, flash metering and focus accuracy, etc. My initial reaction is that they delivered a feature set that I wasn't looking for. 5 FPS, 16mp, and better autofocus, would have worked for me. Plus we would probably have gotten even better High ASA capabilities and higher frame rates with fewer megapixels.
At this point I think I'll cancel my pre-order at the local camera store and watch the prices on the remainig new 5D's out there.

It is good to hear it is more responsive/faster... I have always found the 5D's AF too be very unresponsive/slow.

Did you try the outer AF points as well? In One Shot and/or AI Servo?

I think its best to get more conclusive testing first. With color contrast & flicker detection, along with Digic IV, the AF is going to be better. The question is how accurate and will it be as good as the D700 in servo mode? My educated guess is no.

I don't want to be a party pooper here, but even my G9 would look great for the web at ISO 12800 (if it had ISO 12800)

Actually the 30D was released after the 5D if I remember correctly. So people were complaining that the 5D was a warmed-over 20D with a FF sensor. The incredible amount of whining on the forums back then when the 5D first came out, you'd have thought the 5D would have been a huge market failure.

I think the majority of people here will find anything to complain about. If Canon had delivered everything they wanted at a $2600 price tag, people would have complained that 21MP was too much. $2600 was too much to ask, why it didnt have dual CF slots, why it didnt come in pink, why they have a rash on their butt...

I on the other hand.. am ordering my 5D2 because I got three great years out of my 5D and I have every reason to believe the 5D2 will give me all that. I am quite happy with what Canon delivered and everyone else can go suck a egg.

Damn, there's a bunch of pissy-ass whiners in here!

Face reality and quit being spoiled brats. Do you honestly think Canon is going to deliver you a 1Ds MKIII for the cost of the 5D Seriously. That would be a pretty stupid business practice. You guys are trying to make it sound like this is the 30D "upgrade" all over. It's simply not and, in actuality, a rather substantial upgrade. I'm sure Canon really feels as if they simply cannot make you guys happy, no matter what they do.

What you did get is amazing - the best IQ of
