That's why you do not understand a 2300 Pounds camera not necessarily deserves better AF. Cameras are not like computers from Dell or European car manufacturers. They build to order. Canon is like the manufacturers who have to make decisions for millions and decide one product is good for all. Nikon is no different. If the only difference between the D700 and 5DII was the mount and brand badges I am sure we would still have complaints. Like, I am used to mounting my lenses clock wise /counter clock wise. "The way Canon implemented it's mount is no EOSfun to me " And Nikonians would complain, "why can't we have a wider mount like Canonians who have the ability to use Zeiss glass instead of our screw driven old AF garbage ".
We know how good a 21 megapixel sensor is at high iso on digic3 so reasonable to expect the 5D2 to be better than that
Yeah Marcus, but these are the guys who still suffer the trauma of 1DmkIII AF, so they can't believe it's going to be better since the 1DmkII Have EOSfun!

I get money from Nikon for everyone who puts me under the "hide me" listing

A rational view from someone with a $8000 camera that probably has somewhat less IQ than a 5DII. I hear if rain is forecast the 5DII stops working. It's crap.
IS that meant to be some sort of back handed insult? It sure doesn't sound like a humorous remark. I've handled all these cameras so I'm just saying it like it is. Have you actually looked at the weather sealing on the 40D? It's rubber foam that is suppose to somehow keep water out. The door was not designed for weather sealing. It's the same design they've been using for a long time, but they put a bit of foam rubber on it. There is nothing there that will keep compression on the seals. The same is true for the D700 from nikon. Same door design. I don't see how it could be a reliable weather seal.

Of course... I mean, after all, it isn't too much to even ask for the technology that the 40d has. If anything, it would cost more to retain an old system that is would cost more to keep in production, than to use an AF system that is already in place currently...

Nobody has any idea how good the autofocus on this camera is yet.

Yes... but static IQ isn't what everyone is after. The 5d's AF system was not unusable, but I think it is reasonable to upgrade the system, especially if there is newer technology available that is in a lower end body already. If anything, it won't be better than the 50d, because the 50d is using 9 cross type and also DIGICIV.
...Well, off to birding then with my new 5D2... Oh wait.., it shoots only 3.9 FPS
Actually, I do find it weird. This is one of the reasons that my 40D rarely gets used. Yes, I shoot birds with the 5D. And race cars. And events. I tend to leave the 40D in the bag despite its speed and frame rate.
Assuming the weather sealing on 5D2 is not worthy the name, what about lenses... AFAIK only a handful canon lenses are sealed, and I doubt that Zeiss do like dripping water

I was not allowed to do raw-shots, but I have lots of high iso large-jpgs
That's probably because there is no software commercially available to convert them.
I assume that we will all be stuck with Canon bundled software until we upgrade all our imaging software again?
