I posted these on dpr a good comparison of the 5d2 and 1d3 the 5d has less noise the 1d files are a little more to my liking straight out of the camera.
That's good news indeed. I presume this is for the body only with regular shipping? I ordered mine on September 17 (late afternoon) and have not received any notice at all. If you received your shipment notice from them there is some hope for the rest of us who ordered from them!

FYI, my Amazon order from September 17 officially left Amazon today and I'll have it tomorrow. Those of you who ordered from Amazon about then *should* be receiving your shipping confirmation anytime now. At least that's if the world is a *fair* place.
I was doing some ISO testing with my 5D2 just to get familiar with the new camera and I thought I would post the file sizes at different ISO speeds for anyone that might be interested. All these results are at the 21.1 mp setting:
ISO 50 - RAW - 23.6 MB Large Fine Jpeg - 4.30 MB
ISO 100 - RAW - 22.4 MB Large Fine Jpeg - 4.18 MB
ISO 200 - RAW - 22.9 MB - Large Fine Jpeg - 4.8 MB
ISO 400 - RAW - 23.8 MB - Large Fine Jpeg - 5.58 MB
ISO 800 - RAW - 24.9 MB - Large Fine Jpeg - 5.97 MB
ISO 1600 - RAW - 26.1 MB - Large Fine Jpeg - 5.84 MB
ISO 3200 - RAW - 27.7 MB - Large Fine Jpeg - 5.75 MB
ISO 6400 - RAW - 30.2 MB - Large Fine Jpeg - 7.44 MB
ISO 12800 - RAW - 33.2 MB - Large Fine Jpeg - 9.32 MB
ISO 25600 - RAW - 37.4 MB - Large Fine Jpeg - 12.0 MB
Amazon began shipping out on the 2nd I believe, and so far I have ONLY seen people state that their "kits" have been shipped. Nothing on body only (which is what I ordered)

Ducati or not, it's not as fast as the Lexar Pro UDMA which is 300x or 45MB per second. And you can get an 8GB card for $72 after a $40 rebate.
Lexar Professional 300X 16GB
CF I 16GB 22.246MB/sec 31.547MB/sec
SanDisk Extreme Ducati 8GB
CF I 8GB 24.639MB/sec 33.732MB/sec
Is this the transfer rate with 5D2 or som other UDMA-enabled camera? I think Sandisk deliberately 'underclocked' the IV to make more money. Anyone care to hack there UDMA CF card and speed them up? -rce- wrote:
would anyone like to elaborate on how and why the difference in performance between the following two cards?

Oooh a question. Is the shutter button on the 5DII squishy like the 5D, or clicky like the 40D/50D?
I know I know. I can wait till tomorrow to find out, but why wait?
I don't know about the button, but the sound of the shutter is similar to the old 5D's. I like the crisp sound of the 40D shutter better... it feels faster. The 5D2's shutter sound is laggy like the old 5D's... I don't know if you guys know what I mean.

Yo Mel, I'll buy all your extreme III's for a buck!
When a camera's spec says a burst rate of 13 images, at 3.9 shots per second, thats all based on internal camera buffers and has nothing to do with the CF card. Rob Galbraith's test only timed the amount of time to write to the card, which had nothing to do with the advertised total number of images in a burst, the frame rate or the cameras ability to write those images to internal memory.
So yeah, if you wanted to shoot 200 raw images at 10 frames per second, you'll need something faster than Ducati cards that can empty the buffer as fast as you shoot. ...Show more →
Yes, it does have to do with the card. The buffer fills up after a few frames. After that, it's the transfer rate to the card.
We tried an Extreme III card on a 50D, and after about 8 frames, the camera burped, and slowed considerably.
If all you want to do is to shoot a bracket of three frames, it's fine.

Check the tests on Robs site that I posted the link to. The 50D is Canon's closest camera to the 5D mkII in transfer rates.

The 50D, Which has the same UDMA compatibility, and the same Digix IV.
Uh, you don't underclock a flash card.
The Ducati is a newer card by almost a year. Memory does get faster over time. Before too long, we will see faster cards.
They are from actual tests. The 45MB/s will be almost seen, about 43MB/s, if you buy the SanDisk, or Lexar Firewire 800 readers (with a USB 2 reader, the speed will be about 28MB/s). But the cameras are not as good with transfer rates as are the readers.
