I placed an order on Amazon (body only) several days before I placed my order (kit) at Adorama. I will receive my Adorama camera today. Still haven't had any updates from Amazon regarding my order.

Hes talking about 'new' lenses from kits.

Body only is $2700. Kit with lens is $3500. So a number of people have been re-selling their 24-105's for the 900's to offset the price of the body.

But if the market is flooded with unwanted 24-105's...

That's different. He didn't indicate that.

CF card has nothing to do with FPS. Speed of CF card impacts number of continuous shots. Canon specs say continuous RAW shooting supports 13 shots, or 14 with a UDMA.

It sure does!

If your card does no better than 20MB/sec, just how many frames do you think will move out of the buffer and into the card per second? It's not JUST a UDMA card that matters, it's also how fast that UDMA card is.

UDMA cards are typically 266-300x with a write speed of 40-45MB per second.

I've had good luck with Sandisk so have moved to their 45 MB/s UDMA cards.

The camera should be in tomorrow or Friday so I'll find out soon if I made the right choice.

speaking of the 24-105 lens, the salesman at Ritz told me that there is distortion, particularly in architectural work and that there is also some vignetting.

Can anyone corroborate this?

Looks like I've identified a defect in the 5DmkII. Please see my cross-post at

I used the center point only so far and I noticed something similar but it does not affect focusing or photos, perhaps some reflection?

True but still a nice walk-around lens.

I didn't notice anything on the center point at all. But it doesn't affect focusing or anything functional. Mostly, it's just distracting at times.

I placed an order on 9/17 too, and have not heard a word from them. Amazon.com is great when it comes to books but I wouldn't put them in the same league (for photography equipment) as B&H and Adorama.

Amazon told me today my 9/17 order was backordered. Apologized and upgraded my shipping to overnight.

"...We are very sorry for the delay in completing your order. I have reviewed your account and can see that this experience has been far less than positive. Please note that we strive for convenience and efficiency at Amazon.com, but in this instance we have fallen short of our goal...

..Please allow me to explain that sometimes unexpected fluctuations in supply can add time to our original availability estimate. We have learned that "Canon EOS 5D Mark II 21.1MP Full Frame CMOS Digital SLR Camera (Body Only)" is now back- ordered, and our supplier has not been able to let us know

Gee, that sounds like 90% of all lenses.

It's not intended for that work, but if you stay above 35mm, or so, it's ok. Stay below 75mm or so on the long side, and again, its ok.

Stop down a couple of stops, and the lens sharpens up nicely, and the vignetting is pretty much a non issue.

If you want a lens for architectural work, then get a Canon PC lens. That's what they're for.

True at wide end. CA also. Look at Photozone:

Easily fixed with this $25 Photoshop plugin:

Yes - I really don't feel like living on the edge when spending over 3k for anything.

Not sure about the specifics of IQ you're referring to but if you've tried FF or film before, you'll notice the subject isolation effects of shallow DOF on FF cameras to be much more obvious. And for some, it provides the 'pop' in the picture. Which is why the ultra-fast f/1.4 and f/1.2 L primes make such wonderful images on the 5D and 1Ds cameras.

Something like that, more "3D" and the focusing is very good.

I think we need to be carefull when comparing these cards and take the advertised speeds with a grain of salt. Although the 5d2 isn't listed yet, you can use other new cameras that may be similar in performance.

Just got off the phone with Ritzcamera.com. My order of 9/21 is still backordered. No response to my two emails yesterday. Woman told me that she has no idea when they'll receive more cameras and couldn't tell me why people who had ordered 3 weeks after me were getting theirs. Also stated that she couldn't tell me where on the list I was. Finally, probably bs but ..., told me she would ask her supervisor to put me on the 'priority list'...... Seems this first order received shipping as they come is bs.

Most likely won't be buying anything from them in the future. This is my first purchase other than some 8gb cards a few months ago. Most probably the last purchase.
