got my hands on it last night and took some portraits in my living room. i havent done any critical 'testing' yet, though. check them out if you'd like!:
Just spoke with Amazon AGAIN about my Sept. 17th pre-order. AGAIN, no help what-so-ever. They don't seem to know when they will be getting their first shipment and couldn't even tell me if I would have it by Christmas. Is Canon upset with Amazon?

I cancelled my preorder with Adorama.
Why? Simply because I got tired of waiting and decided to call every photo supplier in the United States that I could find on Google. I found one in stock, actually a kit.
The folks that have said that the best bet right now is to call the small shops and see if they will ship to you are right on. If you are tired of waiting, and want to get one soon if you haven't already, start calling around. There are stores that have bodies and kits in stock right now, they are just real tough to find. I probably called literally 100 stores, mostly mom and pop shops, instead of the big boys. Stewart's in Anchorage Alaska had one kit in stock, I snagged it.

The III may not be the best match for still FPS rates.
CF card has nothing to do with FPS. Speed of CF card impacts number of continuous shots. Canon specs say continuous RAW shooting supports 13 shots, or 14 with a UDMA.
Hi all,
I just talked to Ritz camera, where I ordered mine in October, and they said they just got their first shipment of 65 5D2's,,, Groan, so I know it's gonna be january, most likely. So I remembered where I used to get all my gear when I lived in California, where I bought their very first D60, 10d, and 20d, so I looked them up, called them, and my guy is still working there.
He remembered me very well, and said he was getting one in tomorrow or friday and he put my name on it and will ship it asap!
So now I will cancel my order from ritz camera! I will have my camera early next week! instead of a month or 2. And no taxes as I live in Tucson, az.
So your best bet might be calling around to some of these out of state camera shops and you may be surprised at what you may come up with. So know I gotta sell my 5d and some other jazz as well.
Good luck,
Randy

I feel IQ of my 5D II + 24-105L is much better than 30D + 24-105L that I used previously. Could this be true or just because I love 5D II?
I do not have 30D + 24-105L to compare now.
Not sure about the specifics of IQ you're referring to but if you've tried FF or film before, you'll notice the subject isolation effects of shallow DOF on FF cameras to be much more obvious. And for some, it provides the 'pop' in the picture. Which is why the ultra-fast f/1.4 and f/1.2 L primes make such wonderful images on the 5D and 1Ds cameras.

i know DPR and Canon go into a bit of a tiff and now Amazon owns DPR and I think Amazon leaked something early about the 40D or something, so maybe, but probably just they are shipping to real cam places first.

i got mine yesterday and in comparison to my 5dMI this new unit is very nice. I have to admit the video is amateurish at best. I won't get rid of my Sony HDR-SR11 anytime soon to carry one do it all unit. Gimmick aside, the new LCD is nice and bright, the grip was a little bigger allowing me to have a more positive grip on the camera. I did get to play with the H2 high iso setting and it was pretty impressive in that pinch when no external light assistance is a must.
I think I will keep this one for now....Show more →
or maybe it's more that the video on it is so pro that is seems amateurish?
for real hollywood stuff they sometimes have one person to move the camera mounting and another to focus and another to aim, etc.
the lack of Av control is so ridiculous though, shocking.
yes, with max 1/25th shutter you'd need ND in the day, but so what?
and what if you want high DOF at night?
was craetive control the whole point of video on this?
not that it's worse than a camcorder, but since you are giving up some camcorder conviences it's weird they did this, jsut liek their auto-iso nonsense.
someone said you can't use ND to trick it since they said it ups ISO first.
I placed an order on 9/17 too, and have not heard a word from them. Amazon.com is great when it comes to books but I wouldn't put them in the same league (for photography equipment) as B&H and Adorama.
