I would expect the difference in the view-finder brightness and quality to be night and day, compared to the XSi. Most of the super-expensive MF digital cams and the Leica S2 comes with only 1 AF point. The 5D II is way ahead in this regard. And like any medium format camera, the 5D II is more suited to landscape/architectural and studio/commercial work. You don't need 45 AF points for that. If you shoot primarily sports and action stuff, get the 1D III. It's horses for courses.

I had a quick hands on today, the camera feels really good, perfectly sized, the finish is excellent, the screen vivid and the "quick" menu very useful, the camera feels powerfull
but the viewfinder... when I saw these focus points I thought I'd rather keep my XSi...

I posted above that my 9/17 Amazon order is in the Shipping Soon phase and can no longer be canceled. Strangely it also says no shipping estimate, but I figure that's just amazon weirdness. I'll update here if it ships, but really I wouldn't be surprised if more start shipping in the next few days from amazon.

I ordered that same day and am not in the 'shipping soon' phase...good luck!

This was through the Nashua, NH store. (No tax NH!) That would be on the east coast.

The car is running in wait of the phone call telling me that it's in and I can go get it.

I'm the # 22 person on Tallyn's list. They recieved 4 bodies and 10 kits the day before Thanksgiving. Canon sending 10 kits and only 4 bodies tells what canon has in mind $$$$, but that is how a company makes money I guess. I'm very tempted to take a kit, in order to get my hands on it before I go to the Mayan ruins in Mexico Jan. 4th.

Heya everyone, does anyone know if the 5Dmk2 will focus better with f2.8/faster lenses as opposed to f4 lenses?

I cancelled my preorder with Adorama.

Why? Simply because I got tired of waiting and decided to call every photo supplier in the United States that I could find on Google. I found one in stock, actually a kit.

The folks that have said that the best bet right now is to call the small shops and see if they will ship to you are right on. If you are tired of waiting, and want to get one soon if you haven't already, start calling around. There are stores that have bodies and kits in stock right now, they are just real tough to find. I probably called literally 100 stores, mostly mom and pop shops, instead of the big boys. Stewart's in Anchorage Alaska had one kit in stock, I snagged it.

Call around - and good luck!

i got mine yesterday and in comparison to my 5dMI this new unit is very nice. I have to admit the video is amateurish at best. I won't get rid of my Sony HDR-SR11 anytime soon to carry one do it all unit. Gimmick aside, the new LCD is nice and bright, the grip was a little bigger allowing me to have a more positive grip on the camera. I did get to play with the H2 high iso setting and it was pretty impressive in that pinch when no external light assistance is a must.
I think I will keep this one for now.

For those with the 5dII kit (and anyone else who cares to comment), how stiff is your zoom ring on the 24-105? My zoom ring on the 24-105 kit lens (Oct 2008 datecode) is by far the stiffest of any Canon zoom I've ever operated. It's not impossible to turn, but you really do have to make something of an effort.
Does it break in at some point?

Oh man, you gave it away. "Which Coast?" It could have been a geography lesson for those members who don't know where New Hampshire is. You know, like those who don't know New Mexico is a state...or even how many states there are!

Both of the 24-105s I've used are smooth and easy. The new one I now have had no "break-in"; its the same as when I got it a year ago. Sounds like yours might need servicing (and Canon still needs to improve QC ).

Yep. Might be the new cheapest L lens you can get pretty shortly. They're already in the low low $800 range.

I got the kit lens w/ the 5dii. My zoom ring is smooth.

I would suggest sending the lens to Canon for fixing. I wouldn't risk sending or returning the body.
