Yes. But at the price it looks like I'll only get one

Perhaps someone who wants the extra goodness of the 1Ds3 will come along and help.

I would if I didn't have one already

Wow, pretty discouraged by this forum right now. First weeks of baseless speculation & rumor-mongering & now - I suppose inevitably - vicious argument in the wake of the actual announcement. All this before a single test has been done or photograph taken! This isn't the board it seemed several months ago. I guess this is the reality of the new product announcement cycle here at FM?

Spot on. The emotive and juvenile judgements based upon pure speculation is beyond belief.

Does no one get taught by there parents anymore that speculation isn't fact.

Example: Fact: 5D2 has nine focus points same as 5D. Speculation: The autofocus won't be an improvement on the 5D because of this.

Wait and see. I doubt Canon will disappoint.

An interesting question: Does the AF-points on the 30/40/50D cover more of the images (because of a smaller sensor)?

Yep they do.

I just figured out that nothing will ever be satisfactory - why was I disappointed with this release? Potentially great sensor, higher ISO, and a host of other improvements. For me, the movie mode is - well - superfluous. I really wanted to see the 45 point AF on this one.

As I said, I'm just another malcontent. I'll stick with my 1dm2n - maybe spring for a 1dsm3 one day. (sigh...)

I stopped reading here (paragraph 1):
"Unlike any previous 'full frame' sensor camera, the 5D was the first with a compact body (i.e. not having an integral vertical grip) and has since then proved to be very popular, perhaps because if you wanted a full frame DSLR to use with your Canon lenses and you didn't want the chunky EOS-1D style body then the EOS 5D has been your only choice."

Sure, I can't think of any other reasons why so many people bought this execrable camera! Let me think what Nikon's offerings were at the time... Yes, the D2x, 1.5 crop, wonderful image quality, great price. DPReview has lost all credibility for me. Avoid it. Do your own research.

I suspect you'd be one of a very small (however vocal) group in having those opinions. And I have to wonder what you're doing bothering to comment here, given those opinions...
Regardless, no other 35mm format manufacturer could ciompete with Canon on IQ - the bread and butter of image making for most people - until 12 months ago... Now they can - a bit - so Canon will have to respond in the lines where other features count. The 5D was never really one of them - high IQ, basic feature set. Suits me, and the thousands upon thousands

You're satisfied. Oh goody, that's what's important. I feel so much better now...

I'm sorry that your ability to read all the posts indicating where the 5d could have, and should have, been improved, but since it works for you, I guess the rest of us (those you don't know exist because you can't read the posts for some mysterious reason) will just have to go with your lower expectations.

Thanks. It's all about you after all... Do I have that right?

I was careful to mention that that wasn't directed at you. It wasn't. It was directed at a cumulative mass of whinging which, taken together, does seem hysterical. Your post wasn't even if it was the post I quoted in my comment. Apologies if taht misled you.

No offense taken.

Great work Canon, looks like an awesome camera! A worthy upgrade to the original 5D. I Can't wait to see high ISO samples!

This sucks greatly imo. What use are 9 focus points if they are all in one big blob in the center of the image? Sure the image quality is better with FF but I can't focus where I want to!

I can't belive that they didn't space them out some more.

I have been waiting over 3 years for this body.
I will probably pick one up as my first full frame.

The sensor is the same pixel density as the 20d which they released 4 years ago.
They had to wait for Digic 4 to be able to release it.

I am dissappointed it is not SDHC compatible.
It appears it will take a USB hard drive directly.

Incidently the 50d at full frame is a 39mp sensor... prob 4 years from now...

Have a look on www.warehouseexpress.co.uk for yourself. 5DmkII - £2300, D700 - £1685, Sony A900 -£1999

Really weird price relationship, different to the rest of the world, especially the Sony which is considerably cheaper at pre order than the 5D mkII unlike in the US.

it's gone up 20 quid...

So how come they managed to keep the 'normal' position of buttons on the 5DII and the 40D and 50D have the back buttons arranged on the bottom?

If US list is 2699, and double rebates exist, you might get this cam for $2099 in a month or two...

And if you can't focus where you want to or if the AF isn't accurate enough will the IQ really be better? I feel your frustration...

It sure is easy to separate the gear hobbyists from the real photographers around here... Canon's lineup now includes at least one of everything, except for a $2600 1DsMk3, which is what most of you are complaining the 5D2 isn't! You're crying, "Canon is making us pay for features!" Can you believe it? How strange! It seems you may have not bought a car lately. You're in for a huge downer if you want the GPS system or leather. This is the way it works people... Of and by the way if you want 45 AF points and you want to shoot Canon, you have 2 incredible options to choose from! If you really NEED 45 AF points, then you probably need 10fps/weather sealing/dual cards/etc anyways... Or you could just complain some more.

For me, I'll probably sell my 1Ds3 for the 5D2, as I primarily use my 1Ds3 for landscape/commercial/travel and it will be nice to save the weight (and the money). And of course I will keep my 1D3 as it is the ideal sports/event/wedding camera. What incredible versatility in a two camera combo. I'll have speed/performance, resolution, robustness or light weight, depending on the assignment/job at hand. Simply perfect.

You guys continue the whine session, which is fine because it's keeping me entertained. It's like watching Cops, "Better you than me"!
