Stupid question, is the end of november start of december a real thing, or just a careful estimate? I thought it should/would be possible to get in mid october at least. Any thoughts on this?

It sure is easy to separate the gear hobbyists from the real photographers around here... Canon's lineup now includes at least one of everything, except for a $2600 1DsMk3, which is what most of you are complaining the 5D2 isn't! You're crying, "Canon is making us pay for features!" Can you believe it? How strange! It seems you may have not bought a car lately. You're in for a huge downer if you want the GPS system or leather. This is the way it works people... Of and by the way if you want 45 AF points and you want to shoot Canon, you have 2 incredible options to choose from! If you really NEED 45 AF points, then you probably need 10fps/weather sealing/dual cards/etc anyways... Or you could just complain some more.
For me, I'll probably sell my 1Ds3 for the 5D2, as I primarily use my 1Ds3 for landscape/commercial/travel and it will be nice to save the weight (and the money). And of course I will keep my 1D3 as it is the ideal sports/event/wedding camera. What incredible versatility in a two camera combo. I'll have speed/performance, resolution, robustness or light weight, depending on the assignment/job at hand. Simply perfect.
You guys continue the whine session, which is fine because it's keeping me entertained. It's like watching Cops, "Better you than me"!

Yikes, the AF points are are already too widely spaced. But I think you mean larger coverage, which would mandate more AF points. I think for FF 15 points (not 9 + 6) is a minimum.
Regardless of what other people think, i think this is good news.
It'll effectively lower the 5D1 prices a little bit, and it gives people a new 5D.
The things I seen people cry about the most were weather sealing, and better AF...sounds like it has better AF, and if the "sealing" is better than the 40D's pieces of foam, then there ya go!
I'm going to save my pennies for this beastie. By the time I have enough, the general public would have beta tested it out for me

Read this thread in the Nikon Forum. The guys are impressed by the new 5DII, and they don't understand why so many complain here!
No matter what side of the fence you're on, the grass is always greener on the other side...

This attitude is quite arrogant and not very constructive.
1) How much do you think the ones that complain about weather sealing would pay for that feature? I suspect more than the $50 it would cost pr cam to implement
2) The competition has shown that it is possible. That makes complains more... easy to make.
Making blanket statements like the one you did is easy, but backing it up with real data is hard. Noone here wants a 1ds mark IIi feature set for 2690. I for one would, on the other hand, want a d700 feature set +/- for 2500-3500 somewhere, I don't think that is unreasonable.

I didn't mean anything by that because it wasn't my quote... But I agree with you nonetheless... 15 cross point AF sensors would be great. Or even 11 cross points arranged like with the EOS 3 (custom function) would be excellent.
"Autofocus The 5D Mark II's AF system, including its CMOS AF sensor, carries over mostly unaltered from the 5D, and is comprised of nine AF points plus six Assist AF points...
...Somewhat surprisingly, Canon has not adopted the 40D/50D's AF system which, on paper, is superior, given that all nine of its AF points are cross-type. Canon USA's Westfall says the reason for that is the "6 Assist AF points plus center point were deemed to provide a higher level of performance for AI Servo AF than the center point-only arrangement of the [40D and] 50D." Given that we've previously found the overall autofocus performance of the 5D to be decent, while the 40D's tracking capability has been erratic at best, Canon has likely chosen the better of the two AF systems for the 5D Mark II."...Show more →
Hmm... Interesting phenomenon. I wonder what that bodes for future pro-level AF?
Ditto! Frankly, I'm a little amazed at the vehemence of the complaints & the bitterness of the disagreement. Can't help thinking the weeks of anticipatory speculation didn't help the reception here.

Doesn't it seem like Canon have accidentally swapped the autofocus from what should be their sporting camera (50D) with what should be their wedding camera (5Dii)? Like the swapping of specs on the websites ) I thought that sport shooters and bif shooters mostly use the center point and AI and like the "reach" of the crop... versus the wedding shooters who want more pixels to crop, low light performance and the ability to do extreme DOF with fake eyelashes in the corner of the frame. Of course 1D series can do all of the above at higher speed and do it in the rain. If the 50D had the 5D autofocus and vice versa this would make more sense to me.
This looks like quite a nice camera to me....
...... gee, do you guys think I should upgrade from my 300d
Honestly. Some people here have no real-world perspective whatsoever.
I'm not particularly happy about the narrow "spread" of the AF sites (looks like it was designed for a crop camera?), but I hope I'm a good enough photographer to work around that particular limitation. Everything else looks very lovely indeed.
Hmm... Interesting phenomenon. I wonder what that bodes for future pro-level AF?
Probably one center AF point that can be turned on/off and 44 invisible and non-selectable assist AF points. What a BS... Basically he says the 5D AF is better for AI Servo than that of the 40D/50D. I wonder if he ever shot with these cams himself... Marketing c@#$. Or maybe true... which is an even bigger fart.
