Thanks Mel! I didn't notice that. I pre-ordered one from Amazon on September 17, and I thought what's happening to our northern neighbor is happening here too. Phew!

According to the rep I spoke to at an expo, any card will work. However, unless you are using a UDMA card you will not be able to record the advertised length of video before you hit the buffer limit.

In short, the slower the card, the shorter your clips will be.

You don't need UDMA, but you may have to take shorter clips with a slow card because the buffer will be full sooner. Canon talks about it in the 5dmarkII manual.

just read in the manual that you need read/write of 8MB/s minumum, most new cards are a fair way above this it seems.

miccullen what is your problem? Can't you at least try to be civil?

Thanks for the link mananetwork but I think we are stuck with the $3099 price tag mate.

Think the BGE4-L RRS L-plate (i.e. for the 5D + BG-E4) will fit well enough on the 5D2 + BG-E6? I understand there is a new grip with the 5D2 because of the revised batteries, but have the dimensions changed on the combo? As far as I can tell it looks like they haven't all that much.. the only concern looks to be the connector panel on the side (which appears expanded [taller]).

I know that RRS likes things to fit snugly and is designing a new plate, but it'd be nice to try to reuse something from my 5D setup. Thoughts or speculation?

you probably won't be able to access the hdmi panel and such- if you don't use a remote trigger or anything, it might work. Why don't you just wait until you get the combo, and then try it out? If it doesn't work, buy the new plate!

Oh please!

That makes sense.

Just check the dimensions and you should be able to tell. I did not have a 5D and pre ordered an L plate from RRS about two months ago. I think the only concern would be the outlets for the plugs especially with the added mike plug for video. Also any other buttons that may be placed differently on the grip. I doubt whether the tripod screw hole changed position too much.

Noticed your registered date looked familiar.

I don't think we're stuck just yet, I'm finding out a lot of people dropping their orders. Canon Canada should meet us half way

The bottom of the 5D2 is different. All RRS plates "embrace" the camera from the bottom, and the current plate would collide with a different protrusion in the 5D2. This is a fact, I've used a 5D2 a few weeks back and have verified it.

Thanks Gil, that's what I was presuming. I shoot pretty often with a timer remote, but probably won't care too much about the mic input for now. Funny on the date -- you and I both became incredibly unproductive on the same day I see.

@orangefirefish Thanks. Yes I can (sounds familiar) give it a try eventually, but am planning to sell the rest of the package and wondered if I should hold onto it or not.

And as I write the reply there's the definitive... Thanks stanj. That's what I needed to know! Out the door it will go with the rest of the setup.

Yeah, I did the same thing. Hope this doesn't turn out to be a problem, or I'll be cheesed off. I preordered it day 1....

If you want to feel that it's not civil, that's up to you.

It's an observation that just because people don't like the reality of a situation won't make it go away, no matter how much the same stuff is written over and over again.

I could have made if fluffier, but that wouldn't have changed the reality of it either.

Further update:

Talked to someone different at Michaels on Wednesday morning, who told me:

a) He was expecting more bodies than kits,

b) it made sense to take the lens out of the kit in order to fill their early body-only orders,

c) they would take lenses out of kits for that purposes,

d) I am high enoughon the list that I should be fine for the first batch, and

d) he was most unhappy with the tactics employed by the other salesman in order to try and upsell.

So we'll see, I guess. The won't move from $4K, though.
