B&H still reports "Availability: Approx. Arrival December" for the 5d2 body-only.
Quick check on dpreview didn't turn up any exicted reports of "it's in the mail" or "i picked it up." So I'm going to call a false start until I see more.

I agree with you. I think the proof will be once people start getting emails with shipping info.
Thanks very much for the link. The G10 looks INCREDIBLE. I think its the compact I've been waiting for. I downloaded the Luminous Landscape example images, and I'm still blown away by their colours and detail. I've no idea whether I will actually get the 5D2 or not, but I'm definitely getting the G10.

still not sure i believe it but there is a newer post on DPR where someone claims to have been told they got them in and will be shipping tomorrow....

i wonder if they only are giving a few to the big NY stores at the photo expo to sell?
very curious though that adorama would be 1st store in the world to ship since i don't think any US store ever has been
it would be fantastic though since then it'd be out if not for all, at least still half the stuff i wanted to do with it this fall
of course does adorma getting it even mean the local shops where i am at will?
last time they got the 40D as early as anyone, but perhaps 5d level cams are treated differently.
local shop did say they had been hinted at an arrival right about now and i do know that friday has been a common day for canon delivery trucks to arrive
still seems weird theyd send pre-pro out for review last week and have some us stores getting it first, but maybe they wnt to rish to our market first this time to beat the recession??
I was at the Pro Photo Expo today here in NYC, and finally got to handle the camera after waiting over 15 minutes at the crowded area for the pro models.
Well, it was so crowded I couldn't put a card in the camera because of time constraints.
They did say that the cameras at the show were early production though, so I guess that's a good sign.
Canon had a VERY large area. Nikon also had a very large area, as did Sony (surprise, surprise!). The other D-SLR makers, not so much, though Leica had a much larger area than ever before, I guess due to the S2.
Zeiss told me that all licensing issues with Canon are over, and most of their lenses will be moved over by the end of 2009. unfortunately, the one I wanted the most, the 100/2 macro, will be one of the last, as they are concentrating on the wides first. We had an interesting talk. They did confirm that the reason why the 18/3.5 performance is moderate, is because they went for a compact, lightweight lens, rather than the all out assault on quality they managed with the 21. Odd decision, as I don't think purchasers of a Zeiss lens are that interested in size and weight, but rather IQ. He shook his shoulders when I remarked that to him. They apparently had a sample of the 5D mkII to play with because one guy had hinted that he "found" them to be a good match.
If any still interested, I was told that the G10 has a new sensor that's 40% larger than the one from the G9, and therefore, despite the somewhat higher resolution, we should expect a good one stop better s/n. I'm now interested.

The sensor size is the same on the G9 and G10. Perhaps some other aspect of the sensor was improved by 40%.

I was told by a Canon tech rep behind the counter, who was demoing the product, that. If he's wrong, then Canon's got a problem. He sounded pretty sure.
Oh, and as we constantly talk about what is a pro camera, and which cameras Canon considers to be pro, i seem to have an answer to that from Canon's new catalog of Professional cameras.
The 1D, 1Ds, 5D(mkII), 50D, 40D, and last but not least, the G10. All are said to be professional, with a list of pros who use them, and much lauding of their professional qualities.
I didn't go to the Nikon or Sony booths to pick up their catalogs. If I hadn't only read this well after I left the show, I would have, just to see what they're saying.
