Well, according to what I understand from this, the 1D Mk IV will not be seen in a very long time... :-)

Happy shooting,
Yakim.

To those of you who have used both the older 1-series bodies and the 1D(s)3 cameras, do you prefer the older AF system or the newer AF system?

Assuming that the 1D3 AF is reliable, of course. I mean your preferences from a usability standpoint, AF point selection ability, button placement, custom functions, and so on. Basically the whole package.

I was wondering if Canon would consider going back to the older AF system for the 1D4, given that it's tried and tested and the newer system has its quirks, but they seem to have worked out the majority of the

I very much prefer the new AF. While I did find it to be somewhat erratic in sunlight with BIF, which I virtually never shoot, it's a HUGE improvement indoors in pathetic light. My 1Ds3 focuses on outer points where the 1Ds2 had a pretty rough time. So, no, please don't go back.

But I would not mind if the 1Ds4 cost less than 8k

And there's no need for one. The 1D Mk III works just fine.

I think the new 5 D II is much improvement from the previous model.. I use to own 20D and then last week I handled 40D, the feeling is so much different. I feel of 40D is better.

I use a 1D2 alongside my older 20D and 1D. I've tried out a 1D3 and while it is quite impressive, it's not a big enough jump over the 1D2 for me to rush out and upgrade...

of course, a 15 megapixel 50D kinda makes me feel obsolete... i mean, 8 MP isn't that far behind 10MP... but 15.... argh!

The 1DmIII was released on or about May of 2007, when is do you guys think the Mk4 or whatever it is called due to hit the streets? I'm thinking by the summer of 09 they will be in stock. Any opinions?

Well there's a rumour of a Canon body out there at the moment being tested by a few sports photogs. I'm sure Canon are always testing new stuff, but since PMA 09 is a likely release date, we could be getting close to the new camera.
And based on the Photokina announcement for the 5D and the fact that three months down the line, the camera is still incredibly difficult to come by, a July-August shipment could be a real potential for the next 1D.

With the new 1D MK4, Canon will make it with a full frame sensor at 14-15 MP and the APS-H sensor will be transferred in the feature to the x0D class of DSLR's and the APS-C sensor will remain for the xx0D series.

Doubtful. People were saying that for the mk III.

They must do it! Look at the 50D ! Difration problems, noise problems, etc, and all because of the high density/too small area for the big number of pixels.they need a wider area and the same for 1D MK4; 5D MK2 is not a serious competitor for D3/D700,so 1D MK4 it will be the one for the Nikon gear !

The number "Four (4)" in Chinese sounds like 'die'. So it's not a good number. '8' is a lucky number. Japanese culture is very similiar to Chinese culture cos long ago "Japanese' pple came from China. Of course the island of Japan also had some indigenous pple but were assimilated. Just as in some airports in the Western world, the word '13' is an unlucky number and you don't have terminals named '13'. Someone in the US or Europe might love '4444' as their car number plate but that would be quite unthinkable in HK where '8888' is more likely. '8' mean good fortune and prosperity in Chinese.

Supersition in any cultures is nothing new.

Remember the Nikon F4? The Nikon S4? And there are others of course.

Happy shooting,
Yakim.

According to Canon Sweden, they will invite the photo journalists "soon, very soon" to present new products.... and that we have to anticipate product cycles shorter than 3years!

http://www.kamerabild.se/bloggar.asp?inlagg_id=222&show=yes&Blogg_id=31#222

Looks like we will have a new update frenzy again (and again and again...)

Question is will they delvier my 5D2 before presenting 1D4

I think many would appreciate a Canon version of the D3 with Full Frame. People that are really going to get hosed in all this are 1Ds3 owners.

The D3 hit Canon too hard for them not to respond with something. It may take alittle longer than some may like, but I am sure the 1d3 recall wasnt cheap for them.

Very interesting point. Remember the Palm III? The next version was the Palm V. It's hard to imagine the 1D line changing names to avoid the dreaded "IV". So maybe the IDMV or another moniker tacked on to the ID line. Sometimes that helps "refresh" the product line. Who would want to see Rocky XXIV (or any other Sly movie)?
