Yes it does if "we" represents most of the buying market. All smart business people know that perception is reality.

If by "we" you refer to the occassional opinion then sure,

Oh, and I heard that RobG is testing the Mk-IV, and his loves his Mk-III better than the IV. And he's planning a whole series of tests to show it.

Yes ... heard the same thing ... for tests, he's using the IV to photograph bats in flight ... at night ... holding a flashlight in one hand, and the IV in the other. The IV sucks .... getting more OOF than with the III!

User reports have been divided on every camera and lens Canon has ever released

It's the extent/magnitude of the division and nature of Canon's responses which is rather unique/without a precedent in my recollection. Canon doing a number of iterative firmware and hardware fixes (I call them "design band-aiding"), effectively amounting to a camera recall. I will not even get into their obfuscation campaign on "MkIII user education" (camera settings optimization).

That all sounds nice...but have you any first-hand experience shooting with the Mark III?

Much success,

What makes you think he needs it? What happened when you went to school? When you read the paper? When you decide on which candidate to vote for. Etc, etc, etc...Did you rely on first hand experience or did you learn from a body of knowledge that preceded you or was gathered by others. Think about it - without relying on "second hand" experience the human race would be nowhere, especially not arguing on the internet about cameras.

I don't and no plans to either, unless someone gives/lends it to me.
However, I think that a lack of first hand experience with the camera should not diminish my ability to observe the user feedback division, or to understand Canon's communications like that submirror fix announcement.

I love my MKIII. As a matter of fact, before I sold my MKII, I shot a rugby game with both. After that shoot, it removed all doubt that the MKIII was a vastly superior camera, and I sold the MKII on the B&S two days later.

I love my Mk III with no problems whatsoever. I could care less if there is a Mk IV since there is no reason for me to upgrade my Mk III.

I will be interested in the new 5D only for a smaller/ lighter travel camera and backup to my Mk III.

I love my 1Ds3.

It's as good as a D3 at ISO 12800:

http://cyberphotographer.com/1ds3/fiddler_lowrez.jpg

It pumps out detail at ISO 1600 like there is no tomorrow:

a 100% crop:
http://cyberphotographer.com/1ds3/1581_crop.jpg

I've had no problems with the focus on 1D3 or 1Ds3 and they focus very quickly and well in virtually no light:

My 1Ds3 is for sale in B&S, though, not because it isn't the best camera I've ever used, but because I am an event shooter for whom the 5D (mark II) is the perfect camera. I don't need pro AF and weather sealing and 5 fps and extended battery life. I bought the 1Ds3 to give me better high iso than my 5D's until the 5D2 comes along, and it has done that job admirably.

So as a man, I guess if I read a paper on child birth, then I can go argue with women about the experience of child birth? Or if I've never heard a vinyl album play, I can read the posts on an audio forum and argue about the experience of listening to analog vs. digital music?

It's one thing to discuss topics such as image quality without using the camera, but what do these people bring to the table in arguments about actually using a camera that they have never handled?

It is not these people who have not used the camera that I rely on. It is the numerous professionals who had bad experiences with both the MKIII and Canon's head in the sand approach to fixing their problems. When I hear the same issues from a bunch of people I respect, then I tend to believe the issue.

What I have less belief in are people who say "I love my MKIII" and don't point out any facts or examples.

Canon did something similar with the original 1D. There was a banding issue. Canon issued a firmware release, then a hardware fix for some of the early production bodies, and then another firmware release.

As far as Canon is concerned, it seems they believe that the 1D-3 is fixed. NOTE: This does not mean that EVERY 1D-3 will be without flaw.

Thanks - I don't know. A performer at an event I was shooting. ISO 12800 on the 1Ds3 is a bit streaky in the shadows, but otherwise perfectly usable. The lens was a Contax 35 f1.4 wide open.

How do you know the 5D II is the perfect cam for you? It isn't even officially announced yet. It may take weeks before it hits the shelves. Only then it becomes clear if it is better than the 1Ds3 (in the noise department). And if it is free from "issues".

Thanks for that, I guess I should have added that I use that sticky stuff Wide Receivers use on their hands whenever I am shooting ()

Hey EB, didn't you used to have a photo of a dog as your avatar?

The 1d IV will be perfect out of the box.

There will be TONS of threads about the camera being crap, overpriced, too heavy, bad viewfinder, AF is off, ISO is not improved, etc etc.
