As for the new lens it looks like 72mm ring and short to me. BTW anyone taken time to float a copy of a 5d picture over the new camera? I resized till shutter release was same as well as the canon logo, interesting for comparison. The Prism looks identical size, body width is slightly wider, mode knob is shifted, hard to be 100% but looks like no integrated grip...
My thoughts on new 5d, FF 50d with 24mp and better AF same price range as 5d
I don't see anything earth shattering in the new camera and expect price may actually stay about same unless something wild like IS in body is added....Show more →
I am not really looking for IS in the body but that would be an evolutionary thing.

I just hope it keeps the 5D image quality and adds sensor cleaning...a few more MPs makes it even better...but without the original 5D results I'll opt for a 5D and clean the sensor manually.
I have owned a bunch of DSLRs with sensor cleaning, and none of them replace manual sensor cleaning. They slightly postpone it at best...

just because there is video in a DSLR doesnt mean its the cats meow..the more crap you have an electronic Item do other than the main thing a still image all features will suffer..why not put a cell phone in a DSLR then you have the tech nerds say oh why didnt I think of that hope you can watch youtube videos on it...can it even do the internet..cmon folks...
what is needed is accurate AF always, high enough MPs 12-21 is more than enough, ultra low noise to no noise at high ISOs 800-1600,really does one need 12,800 NO..,a screen that really shows what was taken in terms of resulution 920k is barely enough need at least a 4mp display,...but the more idiots oogle over video in a DSLR then its the end of still photography period...proof look at cell phones...no longer content on being a commuication device it has to have a camera,internet,mp3 player ect but we lap it up like puppies...and the companies will continue to turn out more crap..then everyone will say I wish film would come back.it was simple
can you imagine a 1dsmk10 with so much crap in it..the user has to take 5 minutes just to turn it to SLR mode

I was told to pull my head in because I wanted spot metering once too and then I was told sensor clean is a farce, and then we were told more than 8MP was a waste, then I was told live vew is a gimmick and now it's videos feature. I have no desire for a real video camera, but to be able to shoot short video clips would be a nice feature IMO. If you don't like it don't use it or why don't you actually go back to a plain old film camera that suits YOUR needs and leave me to decide what I like.
To all luddites dig yourself a hole and jump in it.
pixel wasnt aiming this at you...
IMHO video isnt needed in a ****PRO- DSLR****
what is needed in a DSLR
1. Accurate AF always and lower light AF
2. MP 12-21 with NO-noise at ISOs 800-1600
3. A sensor that is Dust repellant
4. 100 percent VF
5. higher res display 920k isnt high enough
6. weatherized body
whats not needed in a PRO-DSLR
1. video

I can't wait to see what it actually is going to be. I know I'll be buying one, and I know it's going to be an awesome camera with far greater ability than I will be able to wring out of it. I can't wait till all the eos kaos turns back to eos fun.

While I agree with your post, I think you meant ... "What is needed in a PRO DSLR".
Everyone's needs are different, but for some, HD Video would be really nice. But again, if you add Pro, your post is spot on.

But's it's here now and it will be in every DSLR sooner or later. Of course I it should not be a gimmick to disguise poor AF or other more important features that you mention. However, when we see the D300 update with video we'll see we can have our cake and eat it too. There's no reason it can't be a useful feature. For me I'd like it because I do a lot of whale watching and it would be nice to capture some video of a breaching whale as well as stills.

You, sir, just proved my point. Sure it may not be for all, but many will find the feature useful (I know I will ... someday). But I can see how it could be argued that the Pro Photographer (selling photos) wouldn't need video, since selling videos wouldn't be as handy (and I suppose even that can be argued).
Philip L wrote:
Not so - video-clips great for getting releases. So, about as Pro as any other feature for a stills photographer.
Well, that's why I wrote "it can still be argued". My point was, it can be argued any way you want. But in my mind, any professional that really wants the best image, isn't so concerned about video recording. And the professional that really wants the best HD video, isn't so concerned about how well his HD video camera can take "snap shots".
I understood what digitalbug30d was saying, but I also understand that there isn't a cut and dry, clear list that makes the perfect camera. Everyone has individual needs and uses.
