Vandit, if your reasoning is correct, and basing the cost on a camera between the D700 and D3, that would suggest the following UK price
D700 price (inc VAT) £1745
D3 price (inc VAT, from same dealer) £2700
Average price (and presumed 5Dmk2 price) £2225
Hmmmm, seems a little high to me because with Sony and Nikon so reasonable seems to me the market is going to expect affordability this time round, but what do I know! Of course we are just speculating but at least that's better than arguing about pop up flashes or poor old Eosfun.
I wish Canon would just release the damn thing, FM is getting techy with the suspense....Show more →
as of yesterday you could pick up a d700 in the uk for £1600

Interesting... I took a screen shot of the camera/moon deal, inverted it and you can clearly see the 'EOS', 'Canon' and the fact that it is a huge lens on the camera. My guess is that it is either a new 24-70/105 f2.8L IS (which would be HOT!) or just Canon showing off their 85L as usual.. Also interesting that they VERY deliberately are blocking off the bottom of the camera.. Makes one wonder whats beneath it
BTW - gotta love being the graphic artists on this one.. Sitting there looking at the full image, browsing through here laughing their butts off, maybe having some EOSfun too... ...Show more →
No 85 from Kwanon has such a big front element diameter. Must be something else or something new.
I think the differences in print from 12MP to 15MP would be negligible. Seriously, how much could 3MP add to your photos? It's a marginal improvement at best.
Regardless, as with everyone else I am eagerly awaiting for Canons release

Thanks for the compliment. Yes I am sure. Nikon tools will do the same for me.
And I already thaought about renting one (D3). Even its weight is a bit to much for walking around with it all day, it feels great in my hands! And I am with you. All my photographs could have been done with Nikon gear without doubt. And nobody would see a difference.
I do not like what I saw from alpha 900 till now. I do not like to see a noisy blue sky at ISO 100 shot with a pentax. I do not like my 30Ds banding issues at low light in Iso 1600/3200.
I do not like Nikons product politics (no problems with Canon though).
Anyway my 30D does a good job. But I have to upgrate. To at least 15-17 MP for my customers. And usable ISO 3200/6400 for my own projects. I can not purchase a 1Ds.
Its that easy. But I think I will be able to buy a 5D II. And it might give me the needs above. We will see.
If Nikon would have brought out a D3 with 15 MP in this quality (image and build) at the D700 price + € 300-500, I am sure I would have bought it. There would have been nothing compareable in the market (for me). But D700 shows, that D3 is overpriced. And the resolution does not fit my growing needs.
But of course my lenses keep me to Canon. And their product politics. There will be a 5D II with the specs mentioned above. I will purchase that and think it will give me the chance to do my job. At least its only a tool. Like a screwdriver.
To EOSfun:
Doing my job and my projects creates the EOSfun. Not the gear.

The trick with EOSfun is to only read his longer posts. I'm somewhat shocked that some of you guys seem to be reading all of Ralphs posts. I see Ralphs smiling face and....... move on.
That really hurts me! I wrote a couple of comments so beautiful that I myself started to cry.

... which is annoying. It'd be nice if one of these companies would say, "Hey, we have a better product than you AND we're charging the same amount as your are or less." The 5DII at rumored specs (21MP, 19-point AF, weather sealing, 100% viewfinder, etc.) would crush the market at $3000 considering what else is out there at this price. I'm guessing at $3500 or more it'd still sell like crazy though, which is sadly why Canon would charge more than $3000 for said specs. We haven't yet seen a good old fashioned price war in the mid to high end DSLR market, and I say it's high time we did....Show more →
Hallelujah Brother!
Only the fanboys (most with absolutely no understanding of mfg) believe there is some magical reason supporting Canon's egregious 1 series pricing structure. It also bothers some "consumers" here because they identify with over priced goods and possibly derive some satisfaction from paying too much.. Bragging rights perhaps? I always feel foolish for paying too much, but that's just me...
Unfortunately, competing "on value" is a "new entrant" or mature market strategy and we're coming closer, but perhaps not there yet. I'm guessing 2009 could change things if Nikon can come through...

My guess is that, if the rumoured specs are to be believed, then the price of 5DII is not going to be less than D700, but more. To wit, 50D costs more than D90. And if it incorporates all the goodies that someone or other here indicates as "vital", such as great AF, 100% viewfinder, full weathersealing, dual cards, etc.. then it will cost more than D3. Which it should, 'cause D3 has these features, but only 12Mp and a traditional sensor as opposed to 21Mp and a novel sensor, plus DIGIC IV.
But where I agree, the yardstick for pricing is no longer the IDs, it is the D700/Alpha900/5D price point....Show more →
D90 was thought as a competitor against 40D. 50D is an answer to compete D300. There was nothing Canon had against it. And its cheaper (here in germany). The 5D follow up (and maybe its a 7D) will get mor professional (body) and all and best IQ seen ever. They will exchange the 1D at PMA, I gess and there will be a 1Ds upgrade, too. 21 MP was the high end state of the art for one year. Now with the just introduced 50D sensor technologie Canon will set the new one to 30MP with 2 Digic IV. They new that Sony would come with 24MP and sony always made the price. They did not know if A 900 is good.
My 30D has still 8MP if it did not change last night. That gives me 105 dpi prints in 60 by 90 cm. My last customer needed them for an exhibition. The prints looked great. But it was near to the edge and I would like to be able to offer 150 dpi next time. You are right. The difference between 12 and 15 is marginal. But the difference between 8 and 15 is not. That is what it would be.

You can see the obvious changes : the moon is brighter, the light now hits on the lens. The Japanese is also changed, anyone can translate the new text?
When I increased the level on PS, I can see the word EOS...
To those of you who annoy themselves or fart in the elevator: just ignore my posts and pinch your nose, you obviously lack the sense of EOSfun Maybe take a course in tolerance and social behaviour and when / if I ever post in an inappropriate matter you can just report it to the mods. Or start a poll for "EOSfun or no EOSfun" in a separate thread The rules are clear and I always try to follow them. Sorry if my style and personality bothers you, but it's not my problem. For everyone here: try to stay on the topic. I do that myselves too!
So back to the topic:

No it's not, the body is not smaller than usual! Just wait and see! As always having lots of EOSfun

Well, I don't want to get into a flame war here and I agree with the suggestion that people who are annoyed by your posts should ignore them (though it seems a little counter-productive for you to be suggesting that! ) - plus the complaint/defense loop is itself getting old ... But it seems to me that people have as much right to express their views (as long as they do so in a reasonably respectful way) regarding your posts as you have to make them (& include your tag-line in each & every one). Aren't some of the folks complaining about others "moderating" doing as much themselves? Seems to me freedom of speech means freedom of speech, no matter how annoying.
but it seems to me that people have as much right to express their views
I could agree with everything you said, I just didn't like the marked word. There is no reason for a "but" here. It's like you said, though it doesn't have a lot to do with the freedom of speech, but Fred's rules in the first place. I try to obey them and have EOSfun! Nothing more nothing less! Please, back to the rumors (or knowledge if you are into it )
I'm not sure if I get your point. Arguably both you, the complainers, & the defenders, are all abiding by Fred's rules so in that sense the attempts to censure/censor you - & the people who complain about you - do have to do with freedom of speech. Or are you trying to say something else? I'm unclear how the word "but" changes the meaning of my post.
