The blacked area at the bottom goes up to quite exactly the point where it needs to go to cover any design elements of a grip.
Do you think 5D owners would appreciate that? Isn't one of the selling points of the 5D that it's compact and useable with and without a grip on demand? Didn't Canon advertise the 5D as the ideal compact full frame for travelling, hiking a.o.? Could't the black out area not just easily cover (non-built in) grip? Canon needs the hype of rumoring for extra attention you know. I am sure mr Mitarai and his marketing staff are having EOSfun on this sunny day along Tamagawa river
Hm.
I can not make a decission. The floating thing still looks like a graphic. But the prism shape looks equal to me. I do not expect a 500D now. As far as I know 450D sells okay. And its very new.
But I compared the 5D and 1D MK II bodys a while with that new moon image and it seems to me that the new one is much more compact than both of the others. That might be why the prism bulk looks so huge and the button row spreads.
Edit:
I think Mark is right. That blackened area does not really look like any shape to me, too. They just might want us to play around with photo shop and worry about secrets.

whatever it is ... not advisable to buy the first available cameras on sale. there will definitely be issues not resolved yet. history repeats itself over and over again.
I have had no early adopter issues with: 5D, 400D, 450D, 1D3, 1Ds3.
Someone on DPR makes a valid point... that the position of the EOS lettering is more prominant than usual. More akin to 1 series. Compare the pics posted on page 59 of this thread.

That is why I said "they mix up the two lines. Could imo only mean they make 5D2 "pro". If its the 5D successor ...

I've been called other names before, but rarely am I called stupid...
To feed the rumor mills and further more wild speculation based on the flimsiest of evidence, today's moon shot (after post processing) revealed a separate EOS label. It could mean they will release a new camera (3d?) and not the 5d replacement.
While I never owned an EOS-3 (I owned 1 series and cameras below the EOS-3, it was a very good camera. It lacked the build quality of the 1 series, did not have a 100% VF, but did introduce the 45 point AF, provided up to 7 FPS, and had the eye controlled focus gimmick (I had an elan IIe with eye controlled focus as a travel/P&S camera).
Canon could redeem themselves if they did release a very good 3d and regain a little of the market standing they've lost.

The 1 series has always said "EOS-1". The EOS-3 and all models below the 1 series have it on two lines. What these "images" mean is anyone's guess at this point, but that is not a 1 series UNLESS they've hidden it below those smudges on the right...

Yeah, exercising some restraint occasionally is not a bad thing! One golden rule might be not to post (relatively) drunk. People might tend to take your posts more seriously then - or at the least not get so angry with you!

I think Ralph had been reading up on the A900 - It's one ugly camera... but nothing a few beers won't fix
Yes it is a bit ugly, but has a film-like look (for the old one here), and spec-wise, my guess is the 5D2 will be very similar (I did not say IQ-wise ).
I find these rumor threads a little ridiculous, honestly why is everyone so convinced that after over three years Canon is finally going to replace the 5D. Aside from rumors there really is no indication that anything from Canon is imminent.
