I wonder if Canon anticipates Nikon releasing a high mp camera at photokina. I think they would like to, but perhaps they want to see what Canon and Sony have first.

What difference would it make? What's done is done for Photokina 2008 and right now it's all about creating excitement and hype over any new products.
The new ad campaign is a pretty good start for Canon, IMO.

Very simple workaround ..... get the D700 - as the $1,000 insurance is included!
Yup, the weather "insurance" and then some, at least judging by the D700 specs.
Yet, we don't really know the 5DII specs/price=value is yet, do we .
We could get pleasantly surprised, or we'll see some more of the same old same old.
I am ready for some serious EOSfunk here . However, if they think they could be pleasur....oops....delighting ole Petkal here with an FF hopped up prosumer body, they are sadly mistaken.

My sister loved her 5D because of full frame and the viewfinder, but the absense of a pop-up flash has been a real pain for her. All her friends are taking pictures when she can't. She is not happy to buy and lug around an expensive and bulky pro dedicated flash unit. Her only option for full frame and built-in flash that runs off the camera battery is...
For convenience, I would also not mind a popup flash....but would not want to give up any other 5D (or followon) function to get it.
However, there are other alternatives to a "expensive and bulky pro dedicated flash unit."
Both of these support ETTL and are very small & light, using only 2-AAA batteries.
When I want to "go light", I prefer the Canon 220EX, which while it is slightly bigger and heavier (4-AA batts) it is still quite small & light....and also supports high speed sync and has near-IR red light AF assist, which I do not believe either of the others do...nor does the popup flash.
Its Easy. I want FF for high ISO/low noise. I want great IQ. And I want to use my great lenses. I do not need 10 frames per second, neither 21 or more MP. 15-16 are enough for me (now) Weather sealing would be nice, but I usually shoot people. Seldom in rain. I am absolutly sure "7" will be the new state of the art and world leading camera. If it does not fit my finances I can go with 50D and have the No 2. This camera is more then I ever expected. I was with 30D for a year. Its a great tool and brought me money in my favorite business I never earned before. So I am fine with Canon. And still exited what the "tide would bring" Great times now.
佳能EOS7D即将正式公布 国内官方售价18999元
Canon to release EOS 7D. Domestic MSRP 18,999 Yuan ($2,776.38087 as of today)
This might be the last time we report about the successor of EOS 5D before it is actually released..... We're honored to report that Evolife received information from a special channel that EOS 7D will be released soon and the office MSRP would be 18,999 yuan. As usual, actual retail price should be around 16,000 yuan (USD 2,338.128)
关于EOS7D更多机身参数信息目前我们还不能确认,坊间流传最多的则是如下,相信最终的答案即将揭晓。
We cannot confirm detailed specs about the EOS 7D. Rumored specs include:
Res: 2110M
ISO: 50-12800
LCD:3.2''
AF points:19
Continuous drive: 5/sec
Live View: Yes, including video
That's kind of interesting, lower price point (even beyond the D700) but video, all the goodies and reasonable high-ISO (12,800) with mid-range FPS. If this comes to fruiition then the 2nd body they may announce would be in competition with the so called D3X (high MP monster, fast frame rate, pro features) rather than the D700. So they'd again establish themselves with the camera to bring full-frame to the masses (which, along with video would be interesting).
The counter-point to that is, will it really be $1k-ish better than the D90 that was just released? The only thing I see from those specs is the high MP count. Time will tell, but speculating is fun I suppose.
