If I had my way and if physics was not a law, everything on a dSLR would be modular and interchangeable including but not limited to the sensor, shutter, the viewing screen, and current standard grip! That way I don't have to replace the entire camera if one component fails or at least I won't have to get Canon service involved. This will also keep gear heads happy and occupied. And I can see "tricked" out parts, like bling-bling! ...ok, at least the first part of my reasoning was serious.

OK, take a look at these assumptions:
(1) "Consumer" body 5DII..............$2,999.99.
(2) "Weather sealed" (pro) body 5DII......$3,999.99.

The difference is $1,000 which should be looked upon as your cost of insurance against the risk of your camera (1) getting drenched and (2) malfunctioning as a result. Steep, eh ?
Very simple workaround ..... get the D700 - as the $1,000 insurance is included!

Welcome to our forum! You have nice habits and a kind post for your very first one. It's not as bad as it seems! Just try to add value to the post of the Original Poster of a topic and have EOSfun! The real EOSfun is never nonsense!
Repeating EOSfun in every post you make is ridiculous. That is all.
I'm going to go back to praying Canon makes a good camera
Honestly, the 2 different body styles is likely just 2 different marketing styles -or- a case of corporate politics. In the european ad ALL buttons, hot shoe, etc are removed from the camera so it is not likely to be a shot of "the real thing". It is also highly likely that the guys at corporate hadn't shipped a model to europe at the time (corporate culture being what it is), which left the graphic artists only 1 option.
That is, canon japan made the 2 different "eclipse" ads (US and asia), and left the guys in europe on their own.

I suppose you could purchase some sort of no-fault insurance on your camera, but there it just gets complicated when you deal with coverage for the inconvenience and liability on your behalf for a botched professional assignment, or your lost personal memories, be it while you are on vacation, or whatever.

That is what I think we will get. Compared to 5D anyway. But compared to other aktual cameras, too. And that at an affordable low price (compared to other companies offers).
That would be great. And my own christmas present. I already started to hold down my expenses.
Man. With so much anticipation and speculation going around, there are bound to be many who will be disappointed with Canon's offerings no matter how good it is.

I said 'current'. The best 'current' alternative to the 5D is not a 5D2, since it is not available, or even announced.
My sister loved her 5D because of full frame and the viewfinder, but the absense of a pop-up flash has been a real pain for her. All her friends are taking pictures when she can't. She is not happy to buy and lug around an expensive and bulky pro dedicated flash unit. Her only option for full frame and built-in flash that runs off the camera battery is...
The 5D isn't a pro camera, it's an affordable full frame camera. It needs to compete with any other affordable full-frame cameras out there, and not just in the eyes of pros. Or should I recommend to her a 50D. She tried a 40D the other day and hated the pokey viewfinder. What should I recommend?...Show more →
Richard - I would recommend that she buy a Panasonic LX3 (large sensor P&S) to hold her over for a month or so until she can buy the new Canon full-frame offering.

It may be just the marketing, but Canon seems quite confident about the upcoming camera(s).
Canon are currently making the best cameras in the world and yet are cranking up the technology. I expect to give themselves the lead we are all used to.
If that doesn't give you eosfun just thinking about it then i don't know if i can help you.
