But that lens is too big to be a 50/1.4. It looks more like a 14-24/2.8.
If I were Canon I would release a 14-35/4 (or a 14-40/4 if that is possible) instead. The 14-24 range is IMHO too limited and I would gladly sacrifice speed for range for this kind of lens.
And if there is a prime lens update I would put my money on a 24/1.4 II. Not, as some rumors have suggested, an updated 35/1.4.

Precisely
I'm still secretly hoping it's ~16mp with at least two stops extra DR than anything else out there.
16-20 mp
weather sealed
1-2 stop better DR than the 1ds mkIII
iso 50-6400 (extended 25-25600)
5-7 fps
spot metering at all af-points
af-microadjust
21+10 af-points
etc

The larger the range the more difficult it is to correct all kinds of abberations. A 14-24 is easier to build than a 14-35, therefore it will be better optically.
I would rather do without overlapping focal length ranges and have better optics. IMO, Nikon's line up is just perfect: 14-24, 24-70, 70-200, 200-400. All of them first class quality.
