I was thinking about getting the kit but I already have the 70-200mmL f/2.8 IS. The 18-200mm offers more versatility as far as focal length but you loose 2 whole stops at the long end. I wasn't willing to compromise.

I am thinking about getting the kit as well... I have no illusions that the 18-200mm will be of comparable IQ as my 70-200 f/4 IS... But the 18-200mm would be a nice lens for vacation snapshots. Nice range and not too big/heavy. If IQ of the 18-200mm is suitable for up to 20x30cm prints I will be tempted for sure

I ordered a 50D from them on Tuesday. It's scheduled to be delivered today. The two concerns I have are, they said they do accept American Express but they prefer not to. Sounded a bit odd to me. I know that in the past American Express has always been great with any disputes I have with online merchants.
Huh, odd, I paid with AMEX as well but the guy I spoke to (Dan) didn't say a word about it.
Lots of vendors don't like to use Amex as it has quite different, and far more expensive merchant fees than Visa et al..
I wonder how much they paid you to lie? 12800 is usable to you? 12800ISO is completely unusable. Post some pictures. I am 100% right. There is not even a single image online that shows a usable 12800iso on 50D. Even 5DII shots are not usable. Geez man!
Besides that... AF fast and spot on... What kind of remark is that? Please specify... One Shot or AI Servo? Center AF point or outer AF points? With fast erratic moving small subjects or large buildings?
Furthermore, how can the noise be 1 stop better than the 40D, while a number of 40D/50D comparisons show otherwise. How do you reach this conclusion? Please specify... RAW or JPEG? If JEPG, what in-camera settings were used? If RAW, what conversion software was used and with what settings? Can you show pictures to back up your claim?
ISO 12800 usable For a websized thumbnail or a normal sized print? ...Show more →
Whine, whine, whine. If you don't like these comments, why don't you buy a 50D and do your own testing, or wait until an extensive review is done by a well-known & competent reviewer
I heard about this too and my email inbox is currently loaded with emails from people asking about this and it is driving me absolutely nuts. It’s almost as bad as the goddamn autofocus questions. Look, I got this information from the press release that Canon Inc. in Japan sent out to everyone. In this press release, THEY are making the claim of a stop to a stop and a half better noise performance compared to the 40D. I myself haven’t done any tests on this because quite frankly I could not give a rat’s ass about it. I’ve basically touched upon this issue in last week’s Tech Tips when I answered the question about the resolving power of our lenses. Here the answer is the same. In the film days, nobody cared about noise because they didn’t see it in the small prints, which is all they ever saw. Today we have high resolution computer screens, and everyone is viewing pictures at 100% like they’re some kind of lunatic. It’s almost like these people expect to hang a 100% crop of the corner of an image in their living room. I can already see it: “Yeah and over here you can see a 100% crop of the shadow portion of a picture of an elephant I took on Safari last year. As you can see the noise is barely visible.” - “That’s cool, Barney, but I can’t see the elephant in this crop. Shouldn’t you have printed the entire picture?” ...Show more →

Secondly, they told me that they only had the 50D bundle which included the 50D, 18-200mm lens, extra battery, and some other stuff I didn't need. They told me that they could break up the bundle and just sell me the 50D but it would not come in the Canon box. They said that could send the Canon box later. I've bought bundles and kits before and each item as always come in it's own box and they just send it in a larger brown box so this sounded really odd.
Any thoughts? ...Show more →
I would have to walk away and get what I wanted elswhere.

Just asking questions... If you don't like them, why don't you just move along? Whiner...
Pardon me, oh Wise One. My limited reading skills do not find the answers to the following questions you asked:

Just got my new 50D today. Here are some test images. I shot Large jpg because ACR doesn't recognize the 50D RAW files yet. All shots were taken at f/8 AWB. The noise reduction was turned off. The only thing I did was fix the WB.
