made a little gif from the Hitaki Matsuri above (the one with the big fire).

It may help you understand the image better.

Beware, it is a big 2Mo file.

Alain, wonderful presentations here! Dead-on exposures that provide great depth into each image. Well done!

By the way I just uploaded the 2005 pictures set in high definition :

http://www.alaindavreux.com/index.php?page=japan_2005

those pictures are a bit old and I hope my style improved

Also, I reworked the 2005 photography below. The original had a lot of noise because it was shot with an early firmware 20D and the RAW tools at the time where not that great. I simply dumped the RAW file in the latest ACR and the noise control default setting made miracles.

So this is sort of a new old pic Clic the link for the high resolution.

sumo ! it's been a long time ...

I wrote a detailed description so you can understand the intensity in the look in this descisive moment.

I linked wikipedia pages as usual, don't hesitate to check, sumo is a very poorly known sport and I really encourage you to try to see some of it from a close distance if you can. It's really something.

I love the 3rd image you posted of Gion-ku. It is priceless and a very unusual shot that provides a glimpse into the person behind the makeup. It also speaks volumes about your ability as a photographer to establish a rapport with the person you are photographing - also quite rare.
