No reason to thank me.. I do hope things settle down for you and you can resume shooting! Who knows, we might even meet and shoot side by side one day!
Krosavcheg > well, the 5DII is going to be a great camera, but maybe you should invest in good glass before jumping on it ... the 350D is a bit old, but I'd rather take a cheap second-hand 40D and great glass that a 5DII with the lens you currently list on your profile (I don't know how good is your 135mm pentax)
trust me, you'll get better results for the same price ! you already have a good wide, so I'd go for a good 70-200, a 24L, a 85, a 135 or a nice macro !
for your information, I did all the images on my website except the 2008 serie with a 20D ...
Kid_Film > that would be fun but I'm nowhere close to "great", I just try to do image I like, know what you like and be selective
anyway let me find a job first, then I will be open to meet people, but right now I really have no tiem just remeber plan a lot of time in Kansai for your trip !
I do agree with you - the glass is very important (for the info the old 135mm tak is very soft, just as my 16-35 F2.8L). My 150mm Sigma originally produced great results, but now everything seems to come out way to soft. Eventually planning to invest in a 100-400mm F4.5-5.6L IS USM and looking for a decent deal on a 21mm Distogon. So I can scrap the 16-35 rubbish...
Yet I am not very satisfied with the 350D capture. As I mentioned above, just everything seems to come out soft and its suffering from high noise levels at low ISOs.
20D is a legendary camera. I found one new boxed in a store in Nagoya, but I would ideally like a full frame sensor. Don't care much for LiveView, VideoRec, Megapix (imho just a bonus) as much as I care for larger viewfinder, new DIGIC and IQ+Color reproduction.
But with the wife in charge, I can't justify buying 2 cameras..
if you don't need the crazy long 100-400 range, give up dark zoom and pick up a 70-200 2.8 (the sigma is really nice and cheap, the 2.8 IS is great), you'll get much much better results !
with that kind of zoom there is little you won't be able to do - except nature shots (but a 300 f4 IS is 'cheap' and versatile with a 1.4x)
about the size of the sensor, don't get too excited, it's very expensive
if I were to start photography now, I would take a second hand 40D, 85 1.8, and sigma 70-200 2.8, for my kind of photography the bargain is really stunning
just try to find a good balance between body and lenses, the 5DII is crazy expensive if it means you'll have to put a 100-400 on it and close it a lot to get decent quality -Iso will bump sky high
hope that this is more helpfull than confusing, I'm a bit tired now
Great shot as usual...
I would love to get 100-400mm as it would allow me to get close to the birds around my area. Plus I am planning to go to Ogasawara islands for whale watching.
Think it would be cheaper to pick up a 20D instead of 40D.
the 40D will be noticeably better than the 20D nevertheless, the 800iso will be better on the first one, maybe you can get a really good deal on the second hand market ?

Krosavcheg > first things first, photography needs a peaceful mind, it's not easy when future is not clear I wish you the best of luck !
Very true. Since this is 3rd time I change the country of residence I since some time ago learned to accept certain limitations and "live in now".
I do wish I could afford new gear, but all in due time.
At the moment I spend time travelling around Aichi and "taking snapshots" as I do have a lot of spare time..
