p.9 #1 · CyberSync Review..

Paul Buff,

Just wanted to add my .02. I recently received my CyberSyncs and I love them. No problems with misfires. I did just a quick range test - I had my son walking in the neighborhood with the transmitter, and got repeated firing at ~250', with the receiver inside. I haven't done any outside testing yet.

Also, I was testing it on a Rebel XT, and was able to get SS speeds up to 250.

Quickly, I want to commend your Customer Service as well. I placed an order for an AB800, softbox, lightstand and CyberSyncs on a Saturday night. I received them the following Wednesday with standard ground shipping...very nice. When I tested the light kit, the modeling light's filament was broken. I called CS (Wednesday), and received the replacement modeling light the following Monday. Many thanks for good products and good CS.

Patrick

Is there any more information about the commanders now shown as upcoming on the website? If it is a transmitter that can adjust the power dependant on channel for my AB800's then I want one now!!!!!

Go to the forum to get more information and ask more direct questions. There is a link to the forum from the Alien Bees website home page.

Yes, the transmitter will adjust the power levels and modeling lights of the lights remotely through the receivers. In effect, the receivers actually become the control modules of the lights, taking over from the rear panel controls.

Thinking about getting a set of these but I'm going to want to mix and match a bunch of different things.

I have an Nikon SB800 and SB600, the 800 has the terminal but the 600 does not, can these trigger the 600? Are the cables included to do so for both?

I'd also intend to get my first AB strobes, probably a 400 and an 800 or maybe 2 800s, to trigger these I would want the NON-battery powered receiver and these would be powered by chaining the house 120VAC line from the AB head to a 3 pin prong connector built into those receivers right?

I would want a setup where my camera, a D300, could be set to either trigger from a transmitter that is in the flash shoe or be triggered by a second transmitter that would be hand held. Is it possible to have this flexibility simultaneously? Are any other cables needed to make this work or is it all controlled by the hotshoe connection? Or would i have to have the transmitter in the hotshoe AND another receiver hanging off the camera and cabled to that plug on the side of the D300?

Thanks!
Sam

You can do all of this. If your speedlight doesn't have a pc terminal you will need hotshoe to 1/8" phone plug from Flash Zebra. You can leave one CST on the camera and cary another one (or ten) for test firing, etc. as long as they are set to the same frequency.

Sorry, Einstein is still in progress. Huge amounts of engineering going on and I'm dependent on other engineers that are slower than me.

Maybe I missed it, but is the Einstein line a higher end product (more $$$) than WL? OR is it between WL and AB? I know about all of the bells and whistles, but I'm not sure about what level it is set at.....or will they replace WL?

I ask because I like what I've read about the CC and I may buy into the system. However, my main interest at the moment is Alien Bees because it suits my needs better than WL. However, I'd like the controls of the CC.

Einstein is way higher-end than WL or the Elinchroms, Hensels, Profoto monos, etc. We are shooting toward about a $500 price for the 500WS version. Once out, Einstein will be the logical successor to WL.

To Paul Buff:

If I get the CSRB and CSR now can I swap with CSRB+ and CSR+ later once they're available (of course with additional price difference) ?.

Thank gawd! I've been sitting here itching to buy the CSRB for the past few weeks because I need them. However, at some point I want the CSRB+ which I know is a preorder at the moment....but I need them NOW!!!

Now I feel much more comfortable ordering the CSRB so I'll be ordering shortly.

Thanks for asking maverick.

Thanks for replying Paul.
