When I first started shooting some film again, I started with 35mm, and found that color film in 35mm just left me feeling flat...it was too far below the quality I am used to with digital, and it just didn't work for me. B&W in 35mm works fine, though. ..

I have no issues with color film in any size. It's the same film, just cut bigger or smaller. The only difference is how big you can enlarge it.

I am aware, but that size is directly proportional to grain in the overall image as well as resolution...and at 35mm it's just a bit below what I want. I'm not saying it's unusable or anything, but it is a very large step back in resolution and overall quality from my digital setup. Not that it still can't be used to produce amazing work...just doesn't speak to me in that format. Medium format is much closer in overall quality to what I'm used to with my mirrorless setup, so I can enjoy the process and not feel like I'm sacrificing a lot of quality to do so.

Very nice work! Still can't believe they brought Gold 200 back for 120. Also shot some first images with it today (but probably no keepers as the weather is not cooperating).

Haven't shot Ektar in years, would be interesting to see if it can match Velvia 50 or Provia 100F in sharpness/resolution. I stopped using it because I couldn't get the colors right in the past, but thanks to NLP that's so much easier now.

Generally agree. I mostly shoot B&W in 35mm and also tend to shoot slower films than in MF. But looking at the images from Michael Shainblum on his film account* makes me want to do landscapes in color with 35mm as well (not Portra 400 though, maybe Gold 200 to try it out and Ektar if I like it).

Yeah. Negative Lab Pro is a must. Took me a while to get a hang of how to use it right, but now I don't have to do a lot to get the color right. Great program. I really like Ektar. Super fine grained and I enjoy the color palette it renders.

Agreed 100%. I guess I don't shoot film to try to recreate digital, I shoot it because it's different than digital. (Which I also still shoot)

I don't shoot film to recreate digital either, but it's a quality threshold thing. I'm not disparaging anyone else's preferences...it's just my preference.

Nice! Seems like close focus for the 1.5. Did you crop in? That's been my biggest gripe with it. Seems a bigger deal to me than when I decided to give it a go. Still on the fence with it.

I couldn't remember so I just checked, no cropping at all. If you watch the video I linked you can see how close I am (with a GoPro FOV) around the 5:20 mark. So far I really like the lens, though not as much as the 35/2.8 from Zeiss.

So, today I finished up a roll of 35mm Ektar that I'd had in my EOS 650 for a while. I used it to be the test roll for my first at-home C41 development. I've been developing my B&W shots at home for a while, but finally decided to get a C41 kit too. Definitely more of a pain than my B&W monobath, but not particularly difficult...hardest part is getting the chemicals to the right temperature and maintaining them during development. Still, first roll came out nicely! Also, the first shot is the first time I've taken a true night shot on film. I had taken shots at night on film, of course, growing up, but always flash of friends or something.

All are Canon EOS 650 with EF 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5, Kodak Ektar 100:
