Ok, so for whatever reason Superia 400 has seen a dramatic price increase pretty much everywhere. Even Amazon is asking $20 for a 3 pack (wtf?!) and B and H is back-ordered on it. My CVS has it for $17. Was like $10 a few weeks ago. Yikes. Hopefully this is temporary and not a sign of things to come.
Anyone have experience with Kodak Pro Image 100? Seems to be pretty cheap and I usually try to buy a bunch of film all at once.
Yes ProImage 100 is quite lovely:
Even Lomo film has shot up. A month or so ago 800 was $14.90/3, now it is $19.90.
Lady Grey 400 B&W is now $20/3
Thankfully I saw this trend and bought a whole heap of film a short while ago before the hikes.
@Desmolicious - I’ve got the bug for an Agfa Sensor 1035 or 1535 (the latter of which which seem to be impossible to find). I saw your posts on the rangefinderforum. Do you still have your 1535? Thoughts? Warnings? Interest in selling? :-)
Friday the 13th trip to shoot some expired slide film and give my 'new to me' Jobo CPE2 a test drive. Lonestar Flight Museum down at Ellington Field in Houston. Chamonix 4X5, Nikkor lenses, expired Kodak Ektachrome film.

I have the 1535 because I love the RF as I like to be able to focus wide open.
The VF is huge. Huge. The shutter button is unique, and perfectly weighted. It makes a weird kind of squeak after you take shot but it is not from the shutter, but the advance mechanism of the film counter dial. I like it because, well it's different and I'm weird I guess..
The RF on mine is off - it focuses slightly behind - but now I figured it out and how much to compensate, no issue. The first shop I had could not correct it so I gave up on them. The next shop wanted to charge me $300 so I said f(orget) that and just did my compensation.
Lens is excellent, form factor superb (very bauhaus and looks like a Plaubel Makina), build is excellent as it is all metal.
Bummer is the batteries are stored INSIDE the film chamber, so you need to open the back to change batteries. There is no battery check per se, but I guess you could do that by looking at the meter leds in the VF before you load film.
The film advance is also the film rewind by turning a little dial - which is a very clever touch and cleans up the design. Film loading is super easy, just push the leader into the film load slot kinda like with a P&S kamera. It also has a film shield which is supposed to protect the exposed film in case the back is opened before rewinding.
Pics taken with it:
Don't know if I want to sell it. I have a cr@p load of kameras, but this one is so unique and hard to get. But I do recommend the 1535 as it is the only one with the rf. And has a shutter speed range from1/1000 to I think 4 secs.
I use a cheapo $5 vented lens hood in lieu of a lens cap. Looks pretty snazzy with it too!
Hey Huss - thanks for all the great info! I had done my research, but always good to hear a real-world take and see some pics. Love that vented hood!
Honestly, I MOSTLY want it because it's so cool looking! haha! I too would prefer the rangefinder enabled 1535 over the zone focus 1035, but 1535's seem to be SUPER-DUPER rare. Only one I could find is in Bulgaria, and the guy wants $450 US for it, which I think is a bit steep. (Though it comes with everything as new, including the bubble box and strap. If it was in the US I'd be more tempted.)
Last question. A 40mm f/2.8 is not my dream lens. Prefer faster, and prefer to shoot wide open for shallowest DOF. I know the Optima's are completely "auto", with no way to select f-stop or shutter speed (except in flash mode), but do you think I could "trick it" to shoot wide open by using an ND? Maybe even a variable ND which I can adjust until I get a green light. (I know it can also be tricked by putting on a hotshoe cover, but then shutter speed is locked at 1/30, which is slow...)
And yeah, IF I end up getting one (big IF), the obvious next step in camera-crack would be a big bother Plaubel! (Which is #1 top of the cameras-I-want-but-don't-need wish list, but they are too expensive for me right now...)
I've not shot film before but recently bought a Nikon F3, the basic 50mm 1.8 ais and 28mm 2.8 ais to budapest ; here are some photos. Shooting film is really fun, definitely come back with less photos but I enjoyed taking my time and really thinking about whether or not something was worth pressing the shutter. The week or so wait from the lab was anxious but was glad with the results. Will consider using film more for vacations where smaller (maybe lighter) gear is necessary.

The meter cell is next to the lens, so any filter would be compensated for which is nice. So yeah, putting on an ND filter would work.
$450 is stupid. Just stupid. I don't care if it is new etc. I have a Cosina CX-2 (which the Lomo LC-A is based on) and some people are asking over $1000 for a new one! Seriously. Mine was under $100 'like new' just a few months ago.
I would just wait - you never know when stuff appears on ebay.
