Last weekend, I went out with some family and friends to the annual "Photoville" photo show in Brooklyn Bridge Park. I decided to take my Yashica GX (not the more common GSN) 40mm f/1.7 camera loaded with T-Max 100. Developed in Cinestill DF96 and scanned with a Sony A7ii and Tamron SP 90mm 2.5 Macro.

This was the first shot I made with the Fuji GW690II. Single light off camera flash with Fomapan 100. For fun (and to get the settings right) I made a comparison with the approximate full frame equivalent.
The film shot was actually underexposed. I forgot to change the aperture on the Voigtlander 40 (used settings for f/1.4).

Love that Mystery Machine! Interesting: even though the GW690's 90/3.5 is roughly equivalent to the FF 40mm 1.4, the DOF is much shallower from the GW.
Re: Fomapan 100. Is the highlight "glow" a feature of the film stock, or is it the lens? I'm liking the contrasty look of the Fomapan, but not necessarily the glow.

The glow is a "feature" from the lens. I don't mind it, but I know it's not everyone's taste. I think it adds to the vintage vibe in a legit way.
Yeah, like you said though, the DOF is supposed to be equivalent, but it does look shallower. I don't scan myself yet, but even with the low res scan from The Darkroom and underexposing it still left a sharper, cleaner file than the digital version.
Fuji GW690II with the Fomapan 100, no glow, super sharp, and I really like the contrast.
Cool. I might try the Foma at some point. Supposed to play nicely with the Cinestill DF96 monobath I've been using to develop B/W.
I'm surprised The Darkroom sent you back film with creases and so much dust! Try the Cinestill monobath at home. Sooooo easy. 4 minutes develop at room temp, 5 min tap water wash and hang 'em up! 100% foolproof.

Thanks for the tip!
Developing and scanning at home is the next step. I just need to make space for it without angering the wife.
I live in a 600sf studio apartment in Brooklyn (that costs as much per month as a mortgage on a mid-sized house!). The gear needed to develop BW film takes up less space than a blender and 1 liter of soda. Go for it! It's SO much fun and SO satisfying to develop yourself. Completely changed my attitude re: shooting film.
Scanning is another issue, but it's easy if you have a digital camera, tripod, macro lens and lightbox. Or get an Epson V600 (@$200).
Yeah. You can insert a hotshoe cover to trip the flash mode, then set aperture manually. But I've read that the shutter speed is locked at a very slow 1/30. I don't think I'm going to do much shooting with this camera. Mostly bought it as a conversation piece and photography subject! haha
