There are a lot of inexpensive 50mm lenses available without the VF - supposedly if you use the entire VF (ignoring framelines) it matches up pretty closely to the field of view from the lens. The 50 is much less than the 43, and supposedly they are on par with each other for image quality.
Mamiya dtl1000>mamiya sekor 55/1.8>souped in kitchen sink with tetenal>Kodak pakon 135+ scanned>lr5 (minimal black/white point adjustment and sharpening). From this summer. Picked up this camera and realized I had a mostly shot roll of film in it. Finished it out, developed it, relived some great memories.
I tried to substitute that combo with a RZ67 and a 50 ULD and even a GSW690, looking fo something cheaper, but at the end nothing can match the corner to corner perfection and the 21mm field of view of that amazing 43mm.
