The Millenium trilogy (girl with the dragon tattoo) and the hunger games trilogy.

I don't like movies as much, but will probably watch the HG to see how it holds up. I loved Lisbeth Salander in the movie, but not the deviations from the books.

Xpan is the bomb. Congrats!!!

VladiD, did you buy kidtexas's?

No, picked one up locally in NYC. I eyed the 30mm lens, but those go for >$3k, which would mean thinning down the Leica set a bit. I'll see if the shoe fits before I invest more into this system. Something tells me I am going to love the format. /swoon

just in case you're looking for more praise of your photographs, it was yours with the gw690 that ultimately pushed me to get that over a hasselblad.

as always, it is nice to see more shots from you.

Mike, I'm really liking what I see out of the pentax 67. How are you enjoying it? And what lenses do you have (I'm drooling over the 75mm 2.8...)

That is a complicated question. I have only ever rented it, but the prices to buy on KEH are obviously compelling. It's basically a 35 SLR on steroids. It's big, heavy, and has a shutter that sounds like an cannon (you need mirror lock-up below 1/FL). That said, the lenses I have used (the newest 55mm and 105mm) are incredible, especially the 55mm. The 105mm is also incredibly underrated, as it crushes most backgrounds wide-open. I found loading the camera to be a pain, but in reality it's a pleasure to use in most other ways.

Really? You can pull off 1/30th with this thing? Kudos to you! I MUp'd anytime I could, even if the VF blacked out. You must have steady hands. Granted, I am not saying "tripod required" here.

While I am making (apparent) controversial statements, just push Portra 400 one stop instead of using Portra 800.

I am off to find a fallout shelter. Tata!

I'm just saying that if you have a 90mm lens and shoot at 1/60th it's not the end of the world and doesn't require mirror lockup from what I've experienced.

I thought I had steady hands but it's damn near impossible to get a sharp shot on the M9 with anything other than double the FL. It drives me crazy!

I love my 6x7, only gripe about it is that its an asshole to load. Good minute long operation.

No idea at all, but I'm not the only one to notice it. I don't know if the the shutter isn't dampened well or it's just easy to see or what, but it frustrates me. In the end though it doesn't matter. Either way I'm crazy!

Read 'Vibration': http://www.kenrockwell.com/leica/m9.htm

Vibration

Hand-held sharpness at slower speeds is worse than with other LEICAs Images shot with the LEICA M3 or LEICA IIIf are sharper than the LEICA M9 at slow speeds hand-held.

This is because of two things.

First, the LEICA M9 doesn't have a real Leica shutter. Instead of the soft, quiet, slow horizontal cloth shutter of real LEICAs, the LEICA M9 has a noisy, multi-bladed vertical metal contrivance that looks like it came out of a Voigtländer. It potentially generates more sharpness-robbing vibration.

Most importantly, the LEICA M9 shares the same defective, notchy shutter-button design as the LEICA M7. Instead of having the silky-smooth

How is the AE mode on the xpan? Useable or should I go all manual?

"I'm unsure if the very high resolution of the LEICA M9 makes it easy to see this"

I'd be willing to bet it's mostly that.

I almost exclusively used the AE mode in AEL. It's great.

There's video of one of the guys from the PDML balancing a nickel on its edge on the focusing screen of a 67 and firing the shutter. The Nickel doesn't fall over.

It's loud but extremely well damped. I found I could handhold my old 6x7 at 1/(35mm Equiv FL). So 1/60 with the 105. Even did 1/30 a few times, but I have unusually steady hands (my record for handholding an acceptably sharp shot is 0.3 seconds with the NEX-5N and ZA E 24).
