What does everyone think the dark banding is at the bottom of these?

As a general rule I slightly overfill my tank to avoid any risk of not having enough developer to cover the film. My tank is rated for 500 mL but I usually use 600 mL; this also helps avoid issues caused by air bubbles at the top (even though I rap the tank hard a couple of times and thwack it with my hand on the side after each agitation, I see a lot of bubbles hanging out at the top of the tank and I'd rather keep those bubbles as far away from my film as possible). If the dark band appears on the edge of your film that was near the top of your tank, I suppose it could be caused by not enough developer solution to completely cover the film.

The only other explanation I can think of is shutter capping.

I think this is exactly it.

Thanks for the suggestion, I think so. I use stearman tank and it doesn't have much headroom to move the chems around. Maybe I didn't squeeze it enough to push the chems higher in the the tank. Initially, I thought it was the darkness or maybe the bed, but I did a B&W where it's not like that.

@bjhurley and @Oldwino, thanks. I had blindly been going with the volumes printed on the bottom of the tank, but I'm going to test it with water, and feel a little shameful that I hadn't already.

Nice, this made me laugh, also because a few days ago after decades of failed attempts, I finally managed to slice a bagel perfectly in half. One of my life's greatest achievements.

Okay, as promised here's a few photos from my first set of developed film. Though, these are not my first film photos because the first 3 rolls got dropped off at place that said it'd take 2 weeks, the 4th roll dropped off somewhere that said 1.5 weeks, and finally, my most recent 2 rolls went to another lab and they had them done in 3 hours. (Trying all my local labs).

These are all with a Nikon F3, Nikon 105f2.5, Fujicolor 200. "Basic" scan at the lab.

The Neskowin ghost forest is very cool. As tides come in and out and the sand moves around there are parts of the year where they are even more visible. This time of year isn't the best, but still fun to see.
