So Freestylephoto was (is?) blowing out Aristapan 100 at $4/36 exp.
One would think there has to be a reason why they are getting rid of it for so cheap, right?
Yeah but not me...
Anyway, just developed my 'test' roll to see how it performs. I used what is arguably the greatest 35mm camera ever made - the Sears Mini 35 aka Ricoh FF1.
As you can see there are line marks running parallel across the image surface, as well as what seems to be defects in the emulsion.
However, I developed the film in DF96 Monobath, and then wiped the excessive water off with Kimwipes to prevent drying marks. I do this with all the film I develop, including the roll of HP5 that was also in the same dev tank.
It seems that DF96 does not play well with Aristapan 100,in as much that it makes the emulsion soft which is why there are marks from the Kimwipes. There were no such marks on the HP5.
Also the other random emulsion defects could be from the DF96. Or it could be why Freestylephoto is blowing out this film at $4/roll!
In a traditional three step soup you dev-stop-fixer (with hardener). I usually add a 5min wash of running water, photo-flo for one minute, hang it and use a cheap Yankee Film Squeegee (that was sitting in a beaker of water the whole development time) squeeze it out and very gently wipe the film one time, then add the bottom clip. I have more obsessive parts to the process.

Perhaps DF96 Monobath doesn't have a hardener?

Monobaths develop and stop at the same time, with the fixer being the water wash. DF96 actually works well with most films, but there are a few which seem not so great to downright avoid. HP5 was fine, the Aristapan was soft.
I'll try again but not with using Kimwipes! I have a feeling though that the emulsion defects may be why it is cheap/on blow out.
