I need to remember to use the ol' Micro-Nikkor 55mm f/3.5 more. I have two versions - an early one with compensating diaphragm and an ai'd one with rubber diamond-patterned knurled grip - both are single coated. In total, you could get two copies of one of the best lenses ever and only spend $150...total. In truth, I need to get a more competent repair person to look at my F2 - it leaks oil like a sieve and the focusing screen is perpetual mess as a result (waiting two years to have Sover Wong look at it seems silly too, though I am sure he is first rate). The F just sits there and also looks sad that I don't use it more...
Perogies are a Central European dumpling. Brought by the immigrants who worked in the coal mines and steel mills. Seasoned mashed potatoes wrapped in dough the either boiled or as a fair favorite, deep fried. When I was growing up, we would travel and camp around the Pocono Mountains and a lot of other places throughout Pennsylvania. Whenever there was a festival of some type you could always count on at least one stand selling perogies. Not something often seen in the beach towns of Southern California.
The name derives from the slavic word for pie. they're a little bite-sized dumpling that's filled with any number of fillings. I guess you could say they're a filled pasta, sort of like a ravioli.
Yes to potato. But don't forget all of the other yummy fillings. I prefer to boil them and then saute them in butter. Mmmm.

Ohhh pierogies! I was confused by ‘perogies’.
Closest to me is “Solidarity” in Santa Monica. But the reviews say the frozen ones some stores carry are better.
