Love all three Nate! Well done. Do you need to do much PP? Just asking as the colors you get are all bang on. Hope you are safe and your family is well over there....
Thanks guys! Gary, these are all untouched, straight-off-the-CD, NCPS budget scans. What can I say, Velvia is a good mistress.
Marsha at NCPS is also VERY good at what she does. Her scans are always top notch.
Very nice Twok! Have you ever had problems with a purple cast with Velvia 50? Velvia 100 (not 100F) does have it and I have to decide which film to take to Etiopia next month.

I've never had a purple cast with Velvia 50 and I've never been happy with the 100 speed Velvias. I've tried about all the films I can get my hands on and I have to say that Velvia is hands down the best for me. I'm still not sure why Velvia 100 and 100F are still made. They are terrible films which do not excite me in the least. I'm leaving Friday for a month in Korea and I'm hoping to burn through all the E100G/GX/VS/S/SW and some Elite Chrome. I'll then have just the films I like left.
Once I burn up the undesirable stock I'll only shoot these films:
E-6: Velvia and on very rare occasions Provia 400X, but once I run out I don't plan to buy more. Might try Portra 400 instead. I have a bit of Astia, now discontinued, and Provia, always decent, but I prefer Velvia to it so I won't buy more.
C-41: Portra 160NC - Sharp, brilliant film
B&W: Neopan 400

Velvia 100 (not the F) is my favorite Fuji film in 4x5...and I'm glad it is being made.
Great reciprocity characteristics for long exposures. Lovely colors and overall IQ (for landscapes)..
I could probably ask what is so special about that Velvia 50 eveyone is talking about ..Have tried it and not impressed at all...it is just an OK film compared to Velvia 100 in my opinion.
Speaking about the collor cast - Velvia 100 tends to have some magenta cast in shadows while Velvia 50 has some cyan cast. This makes them somewhat "even" in distorting the reality...
Nate, wonderful work you have posted on this thread. Very inspirational. How are you scanning the chromes? It looks like a fair amount of post-processing is involved to retain the original characteristics. You must be working in Lab space.

Thank you! These are NCPS budget scans without any editing aside from soem levels in the first and third shot of the last batch. The rest are straight off the CD.

I meant before uploading to flickr. I understand why they are budget if they are only 1024 pixels wide, but it's a bit strange with those nice colors.
They are 2048x3072 pixels and I upload the full-rez JPGs to flickr. This size is perfect for me to proof shots and even looks great printed 8X10. Probably could do some 16X20's with it too, but when I want to print larger I send specific frames for better scanning. These scans are however very sharp and do 99% of what I need.
That should be something like ~2400 dpi, which sounds good enough, and it's the resolution I scan at too.
It looks like flickr has a good downsampling algorithm too!
Flickr accepts any resolution (I think), but is limited to 20 megs. They do an auto resize though to several sizes which is pretty convenient, and recently they even give you the HTML or BBCode for those sizes.

Yep, my 6X9 shots are too big to upload without resizing.

The first one is one of the best portraits I have seen here ever, Nate!
