Thank you, Paul.
I'll sit on it for a while, and I'll get back to you later on.

Just a quick update to my M42 - EOS adapter purchase: The two very cheap adapters (see link) arrived yesterday with the usual speedy HK Post. And they are flange free. The pictures in the ad also indicate this quite clearly.

My lens hasn´t arrived yet, so I cant tell if they will work for the adaptation to be done, but it looks promising so far

If they look exactly as pictured, they'll work!

Good luck!

(Terrific price, BTW. I'll be getting mine there from now on )

Nice, he even has M42 to P/K adapters (those that would rob me of infinity focus) they might work as new Rokkor mounts though, some day, got me one, just in case i pick up a Rokkor, Thanks for the link!

How much meat is there that could be removed?
I need 2mm instead of 0.5mm in register distance to get to 43.5.

Daniel Goller, maybe I misunderstand your question, but aren´t you supposed to make the silver ring/shim from the lens itself thinner, and not the adapter?

The silver ring (shim) is quite thick. I think it might be doable. But keep in mind that you'll need to remove more than just the difference in register distance, because there is the thickness of the adapter to make up for as well.

For instance, when I do the conversions of the Rokkor for EOS mount, it is not simply a matter of removing .5mm from the shim because once the new mount is stacked on top, the register is still wrong. So I need to remove the .5mm register difference plus the thickness of the adapter.

In your case, you'd need to remove 2mm to make up the register distance plus the thickness of your P/K adapter. It might be that you'll need to discard the shim altogether, which would leave the rear element protruding way beyond the mount. This might not matter on your crop body, but I have no idea what sort of mirror clearance the K20D has.

With the way everyone is buying up this lens i may not do it anyway, it's slowly leaving the steals arena, which is where most my lenses rumble.
I have a M42 to P/K Adapter coming from HK either way, i can measure the adapter and determine if the flange is suitable at all, from the picture it should be, but i'll probably check with you if the diameter is even large enough.

Gotta love the Rokkor!!!

For a lens that was designed and built before many of us were even born, it certainly gives the treasured Canon a run for its money.

Not too surprising how the price has skyrocketed. Not at all.

BTW, I'm at my parents' place with my family this weekend and the Rokkor is getting good use in my mother's gardens. Seems to me the Rokkor bokeh is best between f2 and f3.5. I'll post some on Tuesday or so.

Is it just me or the 58mm lens has bigger magnification than the 85mm? Did you shoot with different bodies/distances Dim.ka?

Leon Noel

Body - 5D with both lenses, but the distance is a bit different, later will show more photos. 85L defuses more on far objects that are out of focus.

Check out my EOS MD Rokkor-X 24mm f2.8 Probably the most labor intensive conversion I've done, will not want to attempt another MD lens unless I'm extremely bored. (hmm, Rokkor 85/1.7 is tempting)

http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q69/Blknoel/IMG_6286.jpg

I'm liking it so far, sharp from wide open (very sharp at close range) with almost zero fall-off, very low distortion, low CA. Oh the best part, (past) infinity obtained without mirror problems on my 5D (no need to shave).

Very cool, Leon. I'm pretty sure s23chang has done this as well. I'd love it if you could post some sample pics from it (maybe it deserves its own thread).

Some flat black metal paint would have it looking better pretty quickly

I just finished converting it yesternight, so I'm just enjoying a rest, of course it will have a facelift soon.

Here are 2 test shots I just made on 5D, inspect them for your own conclusion, I didn't touch vignetting and contrast and perspective (distortion) at all, what you see is the lens' characteristics. Just denoised and minimal USM (for the heck of it).

Leon that is cool do you know why? Because the next thing i want to convert - Rokkor W. NL 21mm f2.8 - just wait when it arrives. Hope to get not bad wide angle, who knows may be it will be the next bargain, next to Zeiss 21mm 2.8

Rokkor 85/1.7 is the next in a queue

Leon, great shot. My lens is stuck at the customs for another 2-3 days... but this kind of shots keeps me smiling

ovredal73 i know which lense you have bought - it is with metal ring, probably you will find light yellow casting - as i have found it is in lense before rear lense, so little treatment will help if so.
