Has anyone performing the conversion measured the shim thickness after sanding for infinity focus?
It will be different for each lens, because each of the lens focusing systems will have had infinity calibrated slightly differently due to manufacturing tolerances.
A local member has noted what I noticed as well. The mount and shim from one lens will not guarantee infinity focus if swapped to another lens.
Hence, measuring the ring from any lens and then attempting to make yours the same would be foolhardy. There is a very real chance that you would overshoot infinity on the first go. The option is there to fine-tune it with the helicoid screws, but I'd rather do it via the sand and test method. Tried and true. It just takes time.
Yep. Despite the fact that it wasn't really "meant for" the 58/1.2 (it is the original 58/1.4 hood) the D57KB looks and works great on my Rokkor 58/1.2. Love it!

I'm not sure what number it is, but the hood from my Rokkor 85/1.7 also fits the 58/1.2

f/4 or f/2.8, anyway, sharp.. just too sharp really. I can see small details in the reflection in her eyes :P
Skilled photographer, gorgeous model, beautiful lens; how can you go wrong?

So Jay...when are you going to get your 58 f/1.2 conversion done? I'm anxious to see what that lens does.
Jordan,
I'm working on it slowly. I just need to drill the holes in the adapter. My co-worker offered to lend me his drill press so I've held off just using the cordless drill. I also need to redo the adapter for the 85/1.7 at the same time.
Maybe by this weekend.
