But the foam clean-up is also something else.
Over here the foam contains PFAS and should be disposed off by special rules and company's and is also very expensive..
Not to mention the foam retardant ( Anti Foam ) that you have to use, a IBC with 1000L in it costs us 4500 € so that's 4780$ a bit more for the client.
We just ended a test with a large oil company over here they have to do that test every year to stay certified $$$...Show more →
YES Nasty stuff! Do NOT come in contact with it at all! Haz mat suits needed.!
I don't know if anyone has played with DxO Pure RAW 3 for noise reduction, but it is amazing. The first shot is only ISO800, but the second shot I was messing around after the race and put the camera in auto ISO for giggles. It is ISO25600. Not needed too much for aircraft too much since most of the time we are in the bright sun.

Wow Tim! Fantastic NR!!
I use Nik Dfine2(3?) and am NOT happy! In fact I am not happy with the DXO Nik platform at all any more.
Your 2nd image with the nr is just super! I hate dragging a flash around with me or a tripod/monpod.
WEll done!

The second shot is with flash, I think I had it set to -2 stops. I know close to zero about flash photography, so at the end of the race for the winners circle I just set the camera to auto ISO and let it fly. I never, ever, use auto ISO, but I just wanted to make sure I got a good pic of the winners and I got a decent one.
No surprise I guess, but I took my 2018 MacBook Pro to STOL and it was unacceptably slow. A topaz sharpen plug in took 2-3 minutes to render vs my M1 MBPro at 7 seconds. "Time is money" has never been so obvious to me. Time for a complete revamp of my systems and workflow.
I decided to go way out on a limb this weekend as far as shooting technique, fully recognizing that I might come home with very little. Just felt like I wanted to capture the feel of the competition, not just shoot airplanes..............

I also am not that knowledgeable about flashes. I also never use auto ISO. You made it work without pulling all your hair out(I have none so ...)! So that is a plus Tim!

Loved the V-STOL competition photos! Cool perspective.
Bill and Rob, thanks for the weather perspective in TX and Oregon. Was a beautiful fall day Saturday when I left Cedar Falls Iowa. I can assure you that I found foggy, raining, cloudy yuk in Stuttgart, Germany!!!! Lot's of German beer and food next few days.
This Friday we will get to London, Annie is doing a study abroad semester so we are going to visit her next. Looks like Fish and Chips, Pot Pie, and Guinness are on the menu for this weekend and early next week.
