A close up look at the custom carbon fiber doghouse area on Bardahl just after qualifying at 444 on Monday. It was not ran at anything close to race power on Monday. The oil coming out is pretty normal for a race Merlin.

I did my best to achieve a reasonable amount of prop motion shooting the B29 last week, but the shot was critical and I couldn't take a chance on getting plenty of motion along with a crummy shot. The side angle that was "The" shot my client wanted helped a little. The B29 props turn very slowly, anywhere near full discs required 1/60th or less at those power settings, and as he ripped by us there was just no way I was going to risk losing the shot. We thought, having a practice session the day before might help, but the passes were too inconsistent to hang our hat on as the perfect set up so each one required different positioning for me, and the helicopter. I'd see where the next pass was likely to hit and tell Gary "climb!", and straight up we'd go. That 407 is a wonderful platform with plenty of power to get you where you need to be.
Most of this guy's routine was in amongst the trees and absolutely screaming. I shot the entire sequence with the R5C/RF 600/4 and it saved the day, dead on, every shot. That one opportunity made the investment worth it.
Hi Bill, interesting that you ask, I was thinking about my gyros just the other day. I have two that are dedicated to the video rig that I built and two more that I use on camera bodies. I thought about bringing one last week but I went through it in my mind and realized that it would just fight me in the helicopter, and add 10 pounds to my camera. The gyros are worthless for any type of panning, but they are incredible if you are shooting air to air and flying along with the subject.
It is both for sure. Those full span ailerons and the big elevator/rudder combination will snap your neck in a heartbeat. The GameBird is a supposed Extra 330 competitor, time will tell. The GB is a prettier airplane. Cross country cruise is a touch above 200 mph and it's stressed for lots of G's
