Beautiful country Dan-
For almost seven years now and seems like every other year before that for years we have had fires and extreme heat very summer, so bad you don't want to go outside and do anything because of the heat or smoke, the smoke would even fill up the big shop we have and was hard to deal with sometimes. Escaping to the coast was a necessity every weekend till the fires in that area got bad as well. Have had three small fires within a half mile from our shop just in the last week.
I photographed this G-IV a couple of weeks ago for one of my clients.
Heading to NYC on Sunday to photograph a Challenger 600 series jet. Thankfully, it is just a tad bit cooler up there compared to what we are experiencing in Texas.
Way too close for comfort Bill. We’ve had fires in the Gorge and smoke from the fire in the chip pile at Longview fouling our air but nothing as close as yours.
That isn't good Bill. Stay safe as you can. Ft Cavazos (the installation previously known as Ft. Hood) conducts several control burn in the spring to kill off vegetation prior to the summer training. However, they still have fires during the summer. There is one now. Thankfully, the smoke is moving west of my place.
Thanks you guys, other than a few small one's there is only one real big one that has been burning 70 miles or so from us and has been for weeks, wind has been right till this Monday and now you can't see the mountains or blue skies, hopefully they get it contained soon and no more big ones happen. I remember a few years ago it was smoky with no fires anywhere near and it was coming from the fires in Russia. Dam that's a long way for smoke to travel. I feel for the east coasters cause I know what it's like.
Jan-Arie, your RIAT images are drop-dead stunning! Being so close, I guess you are a regular visitor there - lucky you. We were all a bit unlucky with the weather though. And it took me nearly 3 days to get home to Australia - and my suitcase is still stuck in Doha. Camera gear was with me of course, so no problems there.
"Can't be more'n 114 degrees out here...................!" - (Burton Gilliam/Blazing Saddles) Coming to you from the Texas/New Mexico border where the THI is130 F.
