So a good friend of mine has a YouTube channel with over 195k subscribers. He has videos of trains, planes and 18 wheelers. We decided to go out to California last weekend and shoot trains at Cajon Pass and Barstow, CA where the BNSF has a huge operation.
The first day was spent at Cajon Pass, while the second day was spent mainly east of Barstow to get some really fast moving trains.
This is called a Z Train as it is nothing but stacked trailers on it. This train was the only one we saw that was heading west bound on what is normally an east bound rail line. The Z trains get priority over ALL other trains. This one was zooming by when I captured it.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Great capture Jay! I wish the US would revitalize its train agenda as the EU does! I would gladly take a train ride on a hi speed train, and did when I worked, anywhere!
Freight traffic is great around here!
Back at ya on weekend!
Dan
ps: I never talked back to my mother, but whenever I disagreed with her, prior to the beatings, she would tell me not to talk back to her...and so it went. You would think as swollen as my backside was during those years it would be quite large, somehow, the swelling stopped while I was in basic training. Oh, and yes, I did talk back to the TI. But I was sure to always have proof and backup, so he would just walk away.
Great shots of the show in Malaysia, Steve! Nice to see some different planes.
Dan, great muddy action captures!
Jim, congratulations! Hope you will still shoot some airshows to show us to way!
Some shots of the Blue Angels performance at the Naval Academy, just the usual stuff. There was no cloud but very hazy. I learned it could be the smoke from the wildfires in Canada.
Leaving at 3:30 AM for to Long Island tomorrow for another show. Will see the F-35B for the first time. I can drive from Maryland to Miami, 1000 miles, with zero toll, the 250 mile trip (one way) going to Long Island will cost my almost $50 in toll!
You all have a great weekend.

Nice train Dan-
Good ole American Fabrication-
Thanks Brother!
Yes we have a private RR here in Maryland. It allows the transportation of agri products from rural farmers to the CSX terminal.
Would love to have Sam Elliots hair!!!
So true! A rolling pln over the head when I was about 10 cured me and dad would snap a belt as he came up the stairs. I knew it was coming.
Once I tried putting books in my pants but that didn't work!
But I will say, I deserved the disciplinary action!
Today the kids would sue the parents and win!!! AND locked up!

Beautiful Douglas! A perfect day for a flyover!
Dan
As for the tolls....it is a revenue source..they got us by the kahones!
Great images Douglas! Don't worry, this new role changes nothing but my bottom line. I will still be shooting for all my existing clients and doing exactly what I've been doing for decades. The client has created a completely pressure free environment for me, I call all the shots, it's really a wonderful opportunity to stretch my legs a bitand create. I'll be making large display prints for my client's clients offices and interfacing with them, which is great because they are some of the largest oil exploration companies in the world, so that's gotta be a good thing. Other than that, not a thing changes.
Ross had his annual Memorial Day Picnic today and Chandler and I were asked to shoot a series of fly overs. I gave Chili the R5/100-500 and, based upon what I was told, I prepared the R5C/RF600/4 for a particular series of images. Problem was, the flyover was completely different and what I was all ready for didn't happen. The fly over was incredible from a spectator stand point, and there were over 2,000 military people, their families and various dignitaries who were there to enjoy it, but it was damn near impossible to shoot. The designer of the new Gamebird aerobatic aircraft flew our friend's Thunderbird scheme Gamebird and he did an amazing job, so amazing in fact that the whole routine was below tree top level. Oh well, Chili and I pulled a half dozen images out, and everyone (but us) seemed to be very pleased. The 600/4 saved my tail on one image that I never could have gotten had it not been for the amazingly fast focus acquisition and incredible sharpness, exactly the situation that makes the investment so worth it.
Had lunch with my Canon insider on Friday and we discussed what might be coming down the pike in the next six months. Most of the conversation was under a strict non-disclosure, but he did say that he doubted the veracity of the RF 200-500 rumors and has heard nothing about an R5 Series II or the R1. I'm shooting with just two bodies right now, the fewest in decades, I normally have four. I've been holding off hoping for those updates, if they aren't coming I'm probably going to pop for another R5C to hold me over until Canon makes good on their updates.
Saw the F-35B for the first time yesterday, finally! At 840mm, most of these shots needed no or very little cropping, the haze over the ocean was tough though. The pilot hovered over the water for a few minutes and turned the jet 360 degrees a couple times, quite a sight to see.

Right Eddie...
I like the 2nd one a lot but that head on, it's just badazz.
Kinda like a transformer plane, it lands and then stands up and starts walking.
