Took a ride in Tondelayo a few years back. To be honest, I was happy to see the runway come back into view.

JDE, The Mitchell can be a bit intimidating, hot, noisy, not a creature comfort in sight, and depending on where they stick you it can be less than pleasant. I always love my seat, cuz it isn't a seat, it's hot/freezing cold, uncomfortable but the pay is great and the view is incredible.

I would like to add to this discussion. I graduated from B-25 multi engine Air Force pilot training on October 15th. 1957 at Goodfellow Air force Base, San angelo,Texas. I later flew 12 different Air Force aircraft and from a pilots standpoint, this is my first choice and t he on e i would like t o fly one mor e t ime. My 90th. birthday was yesterday, so thats not likely to happen.
I understand flying and riding and riding are worlds apart.Yhere were some real aireal cowboys flying this light bomber in WW11 and they really delivered the goods. Like JW said riding in a WW11 aircraft is a non comfort experience. Removing the arment after the war made it a real twin engine hot rod.

Yep. That "runway in view" shot was taken from my seat.

The Thunder & Lightning Over Arizona air show is this weekend, so here are a few planes that will NOT be showing off!

These are from the Pima Air and Space Museum in Tucson.

Good Morning Everyone!

Chandler and I documented aviation history yesterday! We had a long and rigorous day with my Triple 7 folks but it was momentous. They are going to do a big press release early next week and I am assuming, after that announcement, I can post some images to show you what we're doing. So grateful for this series of clients and the imaging opportunities that they are trusting me with. I don't know that I have ever had a project that offer so many graphically interesting opportunities, especially as we get deeper and deeper into the project. The scale of the work is difficult to imagine, making it all the more interesting.

Thanks Bill! You will be especially interested in the engineering and fabrication effort, given your vocation. The scale and the precision is just mind boggling.

Harry, Happy 90th and I do hope you get your wish for one more ride in the Mitchel!!

Jim, Ray, Douglas, and all who offered opinions on my question a couple pages back (you all have been busy posting)! I really appreciated the thoughts and opinions. It made me think more and formalize a good plan moving forward. I am going to stay with DSLR for now; something I have actually been planning anyway. The 5D MkIV was an impulse thought to make sure I had a good, low mileage DSLR body. But I don't get enough time to shoot these days with work and family demands, but that will change in the coming years. Retirement is 5 yrs max out, maybe 3 could be in the cards. I have been thinking that I would move to mirrorless about the time I retired and would get more use out of the cameras. The lighter weight and other benefits will really be appreciated.

Why wait? While I am happy with my glass, it's not the current series with the exception of the 100-400mm so while Douglas mentioned value from what I can see I have taken most of the depreciation already. Will keep shooting the 1Dx, 6D for as long as they run and if one begins to fail then I will replace with a mirrorless body rather than the 5D MkIV. As I get close to the time when days are mine I think the first 2 lens that get upgraded will be 24-70 and 70-200; both f2.8 RF and a new body as well. Then over time fill out the gaps from there and use a EF lens adapter as needed. In the mean time the Mirrorless will continue to improve. One thing said here that would make me nervous with mirrorless is the delay in view finder; one of the things I love to do is catch candids in the crowd; see it happen in the view finder and hit the shutter release. Delays from real time in the view finder would be a real disappointment for me; but it sounds like that is being worked so it won't be a consideration in the future.

Thanks again and take care,
DAn

Thank you, Dan. I've driven by those fields of white painted planes dozens of times but have never taken a tour. Abandoned and mummified just seems dishonorable.

You lucky dog, Rob! I must have driven around for a total of 700 miles to look for owls this past 2 months, saw only one high up in a tree.

Sensible reasoning, Dan. When I mentioned the EVF "delay", it was quite obvious 4 or 5 years ago. Now even the new non stacked sensor cameras are pretty good in the regard, like the Canon R5, R6. I am sure in a few years they will be even better.

Looks like you got a decent show in Iowa in June. Hope you can make it.

Jim, Barksdale said the B-2 is not coming, "only" the B-1 and B-52. It's still a great lineup!

My wife came in my home office to say that there was something with a little round head and ears looking in the window in our family room. And look at what was visiting! Cute little thing!
