And here's the movie version.................captured with the R5C. There is a bit of movement because the rotor wash was battering me pretty good.
Just saw 3 Blackhawks take off from KTPL, (5:50 pm) if it was your group, I wonder if one broke down. May not have been your guys.

Chandler and I had a fun day together yesterday, the Blackhawks were delayed little by weather and the constant need to stop for fuel, so that appeared on the horizon about 6:15 last evening, just as the last post sunset light was vanishing. Thank goodness for these high iso/low noise cameras, we would have been out of luck. As usual there was plenty going on at AFW to keep us occupied until they arrived. A pair of F/18's rolled in from a training session in Nevada, they were on their way back to VA Beach. We shot them coming in and promised to shoot them as they left, which proved to be a challenge because as they were cranking our Blackhawks popped up on the eastern horizon. We scrambled and captured everyone.
Chandler and I talked about going over to Perot Field more often in the late afternoon and shooting through dusk, it's a never ending stream of military and civilian aircraft, kind of like shooting birds at a bird feeder. ...Show more →
Jim, curious how you lit that wide group shot of the crews?
That whole thing was run and gun because they were so exhausted so I shot from the hip. I used my Westcott FJ80 strobe to light that one, set it on manual and varied the angle of the head.
Tell you what, Chandler has the chops! He's not very familiar with the R5, doesn't really like the mirrorless blackout lag, but he adapts and his hand eye coordination is incredible. There was so much going on in a short window, and I was concentrating on video, so I told him to do whatever he thought and, as usual, he did not let me down.................
Yeah, the blackout problem is seriously annoying. The Z6 is supposed to shoot 9fps with raw but I found it extremely hard to track with it due to the blackouts. 5fps is about as good as it can be. I basically decided that I'd just stick with my mirror cameras till something better came along. Of course, that was over a year ago. Now with the Z9, there's no blackouts at all. I'm told that at 20fps it will sometimes skip displaying a frame but there's no blackout. Haven't really worked with that yet.

Will do Ray! Thanks! He has a gift, but if the subject doesn't have an afterburner his interest wanes very quickly.
Every day my tinitus reminds me of squatting under an engine running in afterburner while I was trimming the A/B fuel control. Ear plugs in plus my ears incased in noise suppressors really prevented nothing at that range, but what a feeling.
I know what you mean Ray, the emotions range between panic and euphoria................ I get it on the edge of the runway, can't imagine it underneath the plane!
