James Awesome image of the Reds and Thunderbirds, would loved to have seen that.
Bit of a gloomy day today with some big cancellations but I guess that the roll of the dice.
Managed to get a few
Nice shots John, yes shame weather was so miserable leading to so many cancellations. Did make me smile that the P-51 could display but the F-22 couldn't. That's progress for you!
Sorry you guys are dealing with weather, but it's always a factor. Really sorry that you're not 110% Anwar, follow Laura's advice and pour plenty of liquids in. Airshows are bad enough if you're feeling ok, but with a fever you run substantially more risk of depleting yourself. You take care and don't push it. (I can hear the chuckles at this advice coming from me

Big smile on my face this morning, the RAF BBMF have shared my gaggle of Spitfires & Hurricane on their Instagram page. Always appreciate a bit of recognition and free publicity!
Very disappointing at RIAT yesterday as the Raptor pilot "chickened out" - almost everyone else flew, I don't understand why he didn't at least fly without displaying so people could get photos. Thunderbirds display was much better on Saturday. Anwhar, I hope you are feeling better today.
Here are a couple from Friday
How are you and your Mavic Pro getting along? I'm anxious to get your impressions.
Morning Jim,
I like my Mavic Pro so far. Took it out to some local construction/road building last weekend to see what they have been up to; you can't see much from the road where it joins on, so I was pleased to see they have been busy.
I discovered it has a range of 1500 feet laterally, in addition to the 400ft vertical limit. I don't know if the lateral limit can be changed, I haven't looked. It is supposed to be able to communicate over four miles so you'd think I should be able to increase the limit. So this meant I had to relocate my base to shoot the road in the video above, to get further along it. And I stayed at 200ft to get above those big 110ft power lines.
Totally with you on using the noise of the drone to locate it. The Mavic is quite quiet; my friend who has a Phantom 3 commented on that, but you can hear it.
I need to do a lot more flying with it yet, I have been a bit lazy. I have taken it with me the last two mornings when I have gone balloon crewing, but I'm busy crewing and it didn't even come out of the case. One of these days I will go purely as a photographer... but there's always a need for crew!
Just found it funny that you had a Yankees hat. I'll have to find a Red Sox hat for you instead My middle son has become hooked on football (what the rest of the world calls football but is soccer in the US) My younger granddaughter is quite the goal tender.

Apologies if the hat causes any offence! If it's any better I had a Dallas Cowboys cap on today. Have to confess as one is follicly challenged the hat is purely a defence tool & both were emergency purchases when on holiday in the states.
Dare I admit it, I only have one American sports team that I follow, NY Jets; and seeing as my UK football team is Charlton Athletic, you can see I am not a glory hunter!!
Make yourself take water breaks. Set a timer on your phone for every half hour. 15C is summer in Massachusetts. It was even cooler than that while I was there

Good day my lady...
I just woke up now, it is 7:22 am, not feeling good, but thank God that I am OK.
I am trying to drink a lot of water, I survived a -4C for an hour with summer clothes, so a 15C is normal for me
Most of the times I forget everything and concentrate on one thing, I have a (fixed focus) psycho mentality

I don't know that "chickened out" is the proper way to describe "did not fly". There are many reasons why the Raptor may not have flown, I doubt that the pilots cowardice is one of them.

Actually, what led me to use that term were the IMHO carefully worded remarks made by the RIAT commentators after the Raptor did not fly. It was on the runway and the USAF commentator stated that it would be taking off in about two minutes. She then said that it wouldn't fly 'for technical reasons'. The RIAT commentator then said that they were sorry that the Raptor wouldn't fly, that, as far as they were aware, all the other scheduled aircraft would fly, and that, although conditions (a cloud base at 1200 feet) met UK airshow flying criteria, it was up to each individual pilot whether they chose to fly. I know what I think that means about what they thought, reading between the lines - and the Thunderbirds did their full rolling display shortly thereafter, so it wasn't, presumably, because of a USAF regulation about cloudbase height!! Whatever the reason, I still think he could have done some sort of flying - it was one of the main reasons many of the spectators were there.
Niall
Considering the Thunderbirds reputation, and not having a source of information about the activities at RIAT (other than posts here), I have ask....
What prompted the "Thunder jerks" comment?
I expected something that causes anyone to travel for to see. What I saw was "bunch of children in some old Ford Mustang cars with some heavymetal noise in the neighborhood smoking weed".
Is that the "reputation" of a US Air Force display team?!
Sorry to say that, I mean no offense, it was like that!!

Except during times of war, the Air Force probably won't allow a pilot to take off if the "check engine" light is on. (Maybe not even then)
There is so much electronic crap in modern jets, it's amazing that any of them get off the ground. It's not like the old days, crank it over, check the oil pressure & ammeter, wiggle the stick & rudder pedals, toss a salute, and take off.
I suspect that the pilot is as disappointed as you are that he wasn't able to fly.
