Looks like there will be a small ISAP group heading to El Centro NAF in late February for a joint session with the Blues and the T-Birds. I haven't been to El Centro since "BC" so I'm looking forward to the trip. Alas, the hay bales are gone, probably a good thing actually, something really bad was bound to happen there sooner or later.

Beautiful Rob...Glad you're happy with it, that's the important thing.
Thanks, Bill!
It’s a heck of a tool. It’s also something I think will take a while to really learn how to leverage. I went down thinking I’d play with the various focusing modes but between cold wind, intermittent showers and it constantly nailing focus instantly, it was hard to convince myself to change modes. But let’s face it, Commercial aircraft aren’t exactly a big focusing challenge, either . Looking forward to seeing what it will do with more challenging subjects.

The Z9 is incredible! Feels good to have a tool like that in your hands. Strange sky this morning wasn’t it?
Yeah, the weather certainly cooked up some interesting clouds today. I rather like that sort of thing; big improvement over solid grey or solid blue.
I had to laugh; point camera vaguely in the direction of a plane in the air; depress the shutter a bit; watch the camera recognize a plane and then focus on the cockpit. It’s really funny to watch. Be interesting to see how it all comes together at an air show where the subjects are more challenging.
Awaiting a couple of cords and a SmallRig mini v-mount bracket and this rig will be fit for duty...................When it's complete, the Lion Battery will power both the R5C and the Ninja V+ for several hours. Compared to the 15 minutes the Canon LPE6 batteries provide, that's a vast improvement.

Based on my observation in the wildlife forum, I think of most challenging AF situation is flying swallows, and birds with messy background. The Z9 is one heck of a camera, Enjoy!
It is no better balanced than your RS2 Pro, just a bit more room and the locking feature when you hit the off button. The RS2 should serve you well. I will say, the addition of the handle with the joystick in it is a great help. Interestingly, they include a piece that mounts to the bottom of the camera and slides in the channel, it's a mounting piece for follow focus. When I tried to balance the R5 with that piece in the mix it was impossible. You could not balance it in the tilt axis, it would just fall backward and there was not enough travel on that arm to offset the weight. Just by a fluke I removed it, after much consternation, and it balanced in a few minutes.
I had to change the configuration today, back to the booster grip and the larger cage because, for some reason, the DTap connection from the dummy battery unit that Tilta makes does not fit the DTap on the Lion battery. I thought all DTaps were the same, apparently not. Canon makes a dummy battery unit but it is only for 110V connection. So I'm powering the R5C with a USB C connection from the Lion battery. I'm hoping that the DTap cable that I ordered today with power the Atomos Ninja V via the port on the Lion, weebeesee.
