That's what I told him Ray. I notice it occasionally and until something changes it will not go away entirely, just something that we need to adapt to if we're going mirrorless, and eventually, everyone is going mirrorless.

Jim, are you referring to the "slide show effect" on the EVF, which lags behind what's happening in real time? I believe some newer/high end mirrorless cameras don't have that anymore, maybe the camera with stacked sensors like the Canon R3? Same thing goes for the Sony A9, A9II and A1, Nikon Z9.
From Canon: "We used a high-resolution UXGA display with a 120fps refresh rate for startling life-like results. Thanks to the extreme speed of the EOS R3’s back-illuminated stacked sensor, the viewfinder shows virtually no lag and is blackout free when shooting. "

That is what I am talking about Douglas. Mine looks like a nickleodeon viewer.
So it looks like Digic 8 was 2018, and Digic X was 2020. Your 6DII and my 5DIV are from 2018, so I assume they are Digic 8. My R5 is Digic X. In my opinion, the R5 blows the 5DIV away shooting action stills (I don't do any video). Not sure how much of that is Digic X, but I bet it's a lot, particularly for AF.
These mirrorless cameras are revolutionary compared to the DSLRs - as far as the cameras themselves go, the leap from Digic 8 to Digic X is probably bigger than any of the prior versions.
The AF of the R5 with Dual Pixel CMOS AF II is much better than my 5DIV. It gives you so many options, including eye detection. There's something like 1,000 AF zones across the viewfinder. It's amazing watching the eye detection system follow the subject across the viewfinder, even if you are not panning.
I haven't used the Eye Control AF. Usually Jim would be a good source, but this time he is not shooting the R3 flagship.
The in-body IS does work with an EF lens with IS. I believe you get better IS than the EF lens on a DSLR, but not as good as you would get with an RF version of the same lens.
I don't see any drawback switching to mirrorless, even if you have to keep using EF lenses with the adapter. They work great. I have yet to buy an RF lens.
Hope this helps.

Do you think the CMOS AF ll is about the same as DIGIC X
Still looking at the R7,R6 and maybe R62.......Of course a really nice 300 2.8L IS just popped up this weekend for $2100...
Yes, the R5 has a bit of that effect. I didn't notice it with the R3, but I did notice that I couldn’t live with the sensor size. As in life, nothing is perfect . I’ve probably lost some keepers due to this little hiccup, but then the R5 has allowed me to capture a bunch that I might not have taken home without it. Bring on the R1!
Tomorrow and Wednesday is all capturing graphically interesting video clips of wide body conversions. Like my fracking clients, my job is creating a huge library of video/stills so we can create social media and website graphics as well as corporate presentations. I love a continuous challenge like this and both subjects are graphically target rich environments, my job is just find them and create.
Ray, have you used the RS2Pro much yet? I just picked up the 3Pro and am setting it up for the next couple of days. Hoping it will be a game changer because most of this stuff will be handheld and in situations that would be tough for any type of conventional support,
Looks like I may be headed to Switzerland to shoot a completed private Triple 7. I can do Switzerland…..🤣

Jim, it's been almost two years since I last shot a camera (Sony A7R4) that had the EVF lag and blackout. The mirroreless bodies 7 or 8 years ago were really bad in that regard. With the new/expensive stacked sensor, not only the EVF shows no lags, it also shows no blackout, it really is a revelation. It's like shooting video. Yes, where is the R1. Canon?
For those who may be interested, have a look at 5:56 of this video.
They are eluding to 2024 for the R1. Canon moves very slowly, you would think that they would be a bit more tight lipped about what they are coming out with given that characteristic. Don't blab that you have a 250MP sensor and then sit on it for 5+ years without another word, or talk about the R1 three years ago and then hint that it might come out in a few years............three years later. I love their products, but their marketing team isn't too bright. Alas, I am in too deep and really would not want to change anyway, so I'll just be patient and adapt. Love what you get with your Sony gear, but I don't like the ergonomics much. Why you aren't a Sony "Explorer of Light" or whatever Sony calls them, is way beyond me. Everytime I view your images I want to go Sony, and that's what sells cameras. The fallacy in that line of reasoning is, 95% of the photographers out there could buy your gear and never come close to your images, but imagination and hope sells gear...............

Yeah, this is why I didn't convert to the Z6. Kept my D4S and D5 for action work and my two D850 for higher resolution stuff. Apparently the Z9 works just fine. Assuming my contract gets renewed next month I plan to pick up a Z9 and see how that works. If it does, I'll pick up a second and probably keep one of the D850 as a backup.

Jim, in Sony world they are called "Sony Ambassadors", thank you for your compliment but I am nowhere near that caliber. I am just a hobbyist who enjoys shooting birds, planes and some landscape.
Canon has the technology to make stacked sensors as shown in the R3, I am guessing they are working on high resolution stacked sensors. The R1 should be an amazing camera!

Ain't that the TRUTH Jim-
You and Douglas both-
Thank you Bill! I am flattered you put me and Jim in the same sentence.
You two, and a bunch of us following you two that wanna be just like you guys.
However...There are some other very talented peeps here as well but we have our Mentor, Hero, Guide, etc, etc that started all this for us all...
Bet you never thought it would become all this, did ya Jim
We all look up to you very much ya know.
I realized something this weekend as I was hanging out with Boydo. There is so much in Photoshop that I don’t know and never use. I thought that I was pretty adept when it came to post processing , but Jeremy can run circles around me using layers and a dozen other features. I’ll sort of excuse my ignorance by saying that, with the volume of commercial work I shoot, there is no way in the world I could devote that much time to each image. My philosophy is to shoot it as perfectly as humanly possible, thus minimizing time in post. Yeah, I’ll go with that, because Jeremy can start popping out menus and brushes and layers that bring out unbelievably details and tones in his images. He has a sixth sense about when to quit too, nothing looks over cooked. He was showing me how to do this and that in layers and my brain began turning into a pretzel. I was amazed, but it was a bit like calculus, mind numbing.
Jeremy has long been a craftsman in everything he tackles, he’s amazing, truly.
Maybe whoever that knucklehead who popped up a couple of years ago to shred me and call me mediocre was right? 🤣
Thank you Bill, means a great deal, as do all of you, hope you know that. We are kind of like that saying, “ We were country, before country was cool”. When we started this conversation , not a lot of folks were into aviation photography, and there sure wasn’t a thread with 9million views on the subject. You all are pioneers, but more importantly, with few exceptions, very dear friends . Please continue to help me come up to your collective level…….🤣

I knew quite a bit years ago but should have known a lot more.
Jo Hunter was really good at it. ( where is she anyways ? )
And NightOwl Cat ?
Bobble ?
BADriver ?
And many more.

I would love to take some Photoshop and Lightroom classes.
