Food prices are just outrageous for whatever reason! Milk, bread, toilet paper..a chicken..$50+ for just those items? We don't each much meat but $60 for a piece of beef for a roast? And it is not a "top round" selection.
My wife and I have not had beef in over a year and a half. I live in cattle country. I use to get tenderloins for $15-16/pound, now they are $40/pound. A neighbor friend passed away (due to complications from agent orange in Southeast Asia) so I cooked a brisket for his family, $120.00 (packer style, untrimmed). We use to eat a lot of turkey, now turkey meat has gone up. We have been eating a lot of soups and salads. I told my wife if I can't increase my fee for the newspaper, I may have to stop taking photos for them. I don't make a lot from them, but the money has been sufficient to support my gear acquisition syndrome. Now, with gas prices and maintenance for my vehicles increasing, I am going in the hole with nothing left for gear maintenance. I will make that decision next spring. Usually I get excited this time of year because I get to travel with the local high school football team to shoot play off games. I was happy when they lost their first play off game at home because I wouldn't be paying for the gas to drive 300+ miles, a losing event, dollar wise.
Ya, retirement funds are dam near a thing of the past i feel, especially for older folks, won't be anything left when I retire I bet. The USA should take care of the older folks in my opinion, especially if you have served to save our freedom and freedom of speech. I never understand how people can beg for money all day long and say they are a retired Vet, if they really are they should be taken care of, at least a little for craps sake. My 401k has gone down the hill as well, started about five years ago. Of course just like the stock market and everything else, up one week and down the next. Glad I didn't invest a lot in bitcoin. Be nice if we didn't always have to bail other countries out all the time and spent more money on us Americans. As far as beef goes, I miss the big ole farms and a hard days work, it's all pot farms anymore and everyone robbing everyone blind. And what's that Jim said, two photographers were robbed and beat...WTH, only in America and if you did shoot them or defend yourself you'd go to jail for it. You need to grab the bull by the horns and get shiet done...
I hear you Ray! Sheila just looked at me and said, "I've spent $400 getting ready for Thanksgiving dinner and I'm not finished shopping!". While we are blessed and make a decent living, I have to believe that there are a great number of people who are just siphoning off their life savings trying to make it through what now seems like a pretty long enduring inverted flat spin. And we just gave an electoral pat on the back to the party that keeps telling us everything is just fine, "Strong as hell.....!' I think is an accurate quote.
Don't misinterpret me at this point, I think the Republicans are a bunch of lying, cheating low life bums, and as much as I feel the frustration, the idiots that foisted January 6th on us played right into the oppositions hands giving them a bastille full of ammunition, terrible, and terribly dumb!
So, while it feels a lot like arranging deck chairs on the Titanic, I'm going to love my family and friends, keep shooting as long as I am able, and do my best to thread this impossible needle.

Amen! So, while it feels a lot like arranging deck chairs on the Titanic, 1 of the best analogies I have ever heard Jim!!!!
And now missiles into Poland!? Or missile parts thereof? DEFCON 3 claxton sounds in ALL NATO countries!!!! It was a misfire by the Ukrainians
Local UVA football player murders, 3, some of his teamates? A 13 year old raking leaves is killed?
I think if anyone prays, now is the time! If one does not then apocalypse now!

Jim, I recently joked with my wife, after seeing what happened/are happening to our parents, that even I live to 80 and remain healthy, I still want to take pill and sleep forever . I figure if I live to 80, I would have done all the things I wanted to do and could do, and I won't be able to do things that I wanted to do but haven't done.
Jan 6 was nothing less than treason period. There was a time in history those involved would have probably been shot. A party calling itself the party of law and order beating police with American flags and trying to stop the peaceful transition of power is something I never thought I would ever see. Can you imagine what President Reagan would say about it?
The way I see it the stock market and the economy will always fluctuate. Our democracy is what makes us American and a beacon for the world. Good thing is in most of the important races the election deniers were defeated. That should be a REAL wake up call.
I've tried to stay away from aviation topics for the last couple of days but It's impossible to get away from Saturday's incident when on FB and IG etc.
I didn't go to the Dallas show on Saturday, I had planned on going right up to Friday night... Had too much to do around the house. I figured I would just go on Sunday for a while.
I'm glad I didn't go...
I didn't personally know any of the B-17 crew, knew them by name, But I do know a few who do hang with the airplane, Kevin and Kara first came to mind when my phone blew up Saturday afternoon.
Amazed that they both flew during the Tora act and then swapped out with other crew for the Bomber Parade. Fate is the hunter for sure. I've known that B-17 since I was a kid, she is in the back ground of photos from my first warbird show in 1972, My first real pic of her was in Harlingen in 1978.
I was acquainted with Craig, the P-63 pilot. Had him on my Warbird Radio show one time, made sure to say howdy at every show. Amazing guy, always smiling and very easy to talk with, and from everything I'm told by those that flew with him, he was a great stick.
The Airshow community is small, and the warbird community is even smaller. A lot of people are hurting, these gentlemen touched many lives.

Great post Zane, a terrible tragedy for sure. Glad neither of us were there to witness it.
I'll second that!
Jim, in case you didnt remember Craig was flying the Kate bomber on our Tora photo mission in Lufkin a few years back if you have any awesome footage from that. I remember a pretty cool "cross under" where he practically rubbed the oil off the belly of the Bonanza with his forehead.
I have to confess that I am reconsidering taking full advantage of some of my privileged access locations in the future. Maybe it's time to shoot some compositions farther away...................

Right you are! I have stuff in the 2 Petabytes of data spinning that I haven't even seen...........
thats the flight! was an awesome morning. I looked through some of your other videos - somehow I never remember seeing that awesome 2 ship Bonanza video we shot of my Bonanza. Makes me want to go flying!
